Simple (hopefully) network question

August 7th, 2016

I have a linksys wired router connected to my modem and two computers off that. My main computer is dual booted with windows xp and vista 64 bit… the other computer is windows xp. Is there any way to SEE the other computer from vista? like i want to just SEE it and be able to browse and transfer files in between them. Any way this is possible without a ton of 3rd party software? Sorry this sounds like such a stupid question, but i didnt find a very clear answer looking online…
Answer #1
Just make sure both computers in the network have the same workgroup name…You need to share something in order to have access to it on the other computer…Check no firewall is blocking the network connection…
Answer #2
well for vista, just setup a new network and give it a workgroup name. Then for XP repeat. For both have file sharing enabled. To share a cetain drive, go to my computer>>right click>>properties>>sharing tab>>check box to enable sharing of folder
Answer #3
doesnt work…when i go to control panel > network and sharing center and then click “view computers and devices” it only shows up with my computer. if i click that i can SEE my C: drive being shared but i dont see my friends computer also connected to the wired router. we’re both on the same network so i dont know whats wrong
Answer #4
Right click on the folder or drive and go on sharing and security…Until you share..you won’t be able to see it on the other computer..And the other way around…If still nothing listed…Check no firewalls are blocking the network connection…
Answer #5
they are both being shared. what should i do with norton 360’s firewall? we both use that
