Removing Default Applications

August 4th, 2016

Hi Guys,
Hopefully you can help me….I want to know if there is an easy way to remove all the ‘default’ crap that comes with Windows Vista Ultimate. I want to remove all the useless drivers I will never use, applications I will never use (Movie Maker, built-in games etc etc), unwanted languages etc
I’ve done several searches both here and on Google and can’t seem to find a definitive answer. Is there a small application that you can run to remove these files, or is it more in-depth than that?
Thanks in advance.

Just download one of the slimmed down versions…

you have to go to programs and features and then click turn windows features on or off. Having said that you cannot remove everything.

So does turning features off actually uninstall them, or just hide them from view? I’m assuming you could turn them ‘on’ again without needing the install disk, so I’m guessing the files are never actually removed?

Thanks but I already have a copy of Ultimate that a friend gave me, so I’m reluctant to download it unless I really have to. How big are your ISOs? Thanks.
Update- I would also like to have full control over what is and isn’t installed.

perhaps this is what you’re looking for:
vLite – Vista Lite
http://www.vlite.net/
vLite is a tool for customizing the Windows Vista installation before actually installing it.
Main features are:
* hotfix, language pack and driver integration
* component removal
* unattended setup
* tweaks
* split/merge Vista installation CDs
* create ISO and burn bootable CD/DVD
Windows Vista from Microsoft takes a lot of resources, we all know that. vLite provides you with an easy removal of the unwanted components in order to make Vista run faster and to your liking.
This tool doesn't use any kind of hacking, all files and registry entries are protected as they would be if you install the unedited version only with the changes you select.
It configures the installation directly before the installation, meaning you'll have to remake the ISO and reinstall it. This method is much cleaner, not to mention easier and more logical than doing it after installation on every reinstall.

Just what I’m after, thank you! I will give it a go this afternoon.
