Question on UEFI/Legacy
August 7th, 2016
That`s the case:
I wanted to recover an Image-Backup done with a Backup Software, but the Boot-CD does not Boot on my PC. I have an Windows 10 64-Bit System.
While trying i found out it does indeed boot when i change the Bios from UEFI to Legacy.
If i recover the Image in Legacy-Mode and after that i change it again to UEFI – will Windows boot up or will there be Problems?
Is there any way to make the Boot-CD work also on UEFI?
Thanks in advance.
if your windows installation is uefi installation , it wont start at all on legacy mode. if your windows installation is standard one , it doesnt matter if it is uefi or legacy bios.
as a result you wont notice anything on standard installation of windows but uefi installations wont boot on legacy and when you set it again uefi , it should work without problems. i havent tried it personally but there shouldnt be any problems if you do everything right.
as for second question , i do not know any way for creating a boot disk for a software which does not support uefi natively.
in addition even if you set to legacy and be able to back up , you may have problems with that back up if your windows is uefi installation cuz legacy bios may not be able to read the additional partition created along with uefi installation compared to standard installation. so what you are doing is not very healthy. searching for a back up software which can boot on uefi ; would be a better choice.
It depends entirely on the backup software as to if it will work or not, If it discovers that the system is booting in bios mode then it can reinitilise the disk as mbr and restore the windows partition.
I suggest you upgrade/switch backup solutions to one that has a decent boot image. Paragon Hard Disk Manager will boot on any 64bit pc from bios to uefi secure boot.
some apps here that might help ?
EasyUEFI (Support for UEFI booting from MBR disk) being one of them, along with WinToHDD & WinToUSB
http://www.easyuefi.com/
and they are all in our apps section
have not tried any of them myself yet
