Question for parakeet owners

July 31st, 2016

My six-year-old hen has stopped laying eggs and has taken up pecking the sides of her cage since her “husband” and “sister” died. I’m thinking about getting her some new friends, but due to her age and temperament, I’m wondering if it’s too late for more birds. Any suggestions?

I own a parakeet but I’m not female so cannot help.

Forgive me, the coffee hasn’t kicked in yet. I wasn’t being sexist, my question is about hens. I’ve reworded the topic.

Depends on the parakeet. I would get two because when the old one goes you will be in the same boat again.

Thanks. My brood and I decided to give her extra attention rather than put other birds in the cage with her at this stage and that seems to be working for her. She’s outlived the other hens by years.
