Question about PC
August 5th, 2016
Should I keep my operating system up to date with microsoft update for Windows 7 for speeds, performance and reliable? I’m currently on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and downloaded it from here with the activator tool as well.
I just want to speed up my pc abit more, does it mean I need a better HDD and should get SSD and dump my Seagate Barracuda 500gb HDD as it seems to be junk, slow performing?
EDIT:
Yes I’ve used CCleaner if you wondered, I use them to clean the files after uninstall that stays behind. I use it to clean with that registry tool is all I do to keep PC smooth. If there any other product, software from here similar to CCleaner but in a better situation, please do share and give me link to it.
EDIT2:
Should I use TuneUp Utilities for faster performance for my PC, is it really necessary?
Keeping your OS up to date is probably a good idea from a security and bug fix perspective. I’ve never personally noticed any speed improvements from any software “update”. At least not noticeable from day to day use. SSD is a good idea if you need to speed up application load times. Also ensure you have sufficient memory for a 64bit OS as well.
The thing is, no software is gonna give you the speed your looking for, windows boosting softwares only clean up junk, registries, bugs in your windows, which might be slowing down your pc, making it near as fast as it was when your bearly got the pc. The only thing that gives you true speed, are RAMS (Random Access Memory), the more rams you have the faster your computer will be, from games, to movies, and everything else. the minimum requirement for a 64-bit is 2-GB, but it works slow with a 2GB RAM because 2GB RAM is the minimum which can handle a 64-bit system ( noticeably slow, buggy, etc),, if you want fast speed you have to get a 4GB RAM or more.
If SSD is not an opt., you should try raid your drives. TuneUp can increase you PC performance, just a bit.
I guess your thinking a bit overboard, every morning, I get up and turn on the PC then have a cup of tea.
When I come back the computer is ready, I don’t use any of the programs you mentioned as if you have a decent PC, it will coupe with the minor quirks.
Well this is my computer specification;
– Intel Core i7 860 @ 2.80 GHz
– GIGABYTE P55A-UD4P
– 2x 768MB DDR5 GIGABYTE NVIDIA GTX 460 (SLI)
– 4GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator 1333 MHz
– 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM
– 750watt Corsair HX Power Supply
By the specification, and only installed firefox; kaspersky internet security 2011; steam games such as Counter-Strike: Source, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2; Windows Live Messenger; VLC media player; CCleaner; and of course installed all drivers for razer gaming gears (Razer Deathadder v2 (3500dpi), Razer Barracuda AC-1 Gaming Audio)
Every time I start up the computer, it take awhile to load the application (steam) and sometime it lag abit when opening up firefox. Could this be Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 that make the system slow down or?? If it not a problem, then would you recommend me going on SSD?
Need your opinions guys.
a SSD will (atleast in theory) outperform a regular HDD, but just how noticeable the difference is is an entirely different matter. SSDs are also wayyy more expensive than regular HDDs at this point but if it’s an option for you, go right ahead and get one, it’s the future anyway! For better gaming performance, don’t forget to consider you CPU, RAM and GPU – a lot rests on those
I think we have a problem here. With these specs you shouldn’t really experience that kind of problems. Run a system health report it’s the last of the advanced tools:

Its normal, my rig is more cheaper to build then yours and it too has this slow Steam start thing.
I’m running what you usually run except for VLC, CCleaner.
Well all my games are on Steam, 126 of them.
I have software utilities for my G15, G500.
I guess it depends if you have a load of crap installed that hog the bootup process.
But yeah, I’m running Kaspersky 2011 IS with Steam, Logitech Setpoint, ATI Catalyst, VIA Audiodeck, Logitech LCD manager. I don’t mind system booting that takes a minute.
Heck it used to be allot worse with Vista or Xp which gets slower day by day.
Just don’t worry about it, your being over reactive.
Unless you take a bootup benchmark using a stopwatch for instance.

Are you kidding? Seagate and WD produces the best HDD You can try Tuneup Utilities
Allways Update own OS,For its safety.

Tried that way, doesn’t make any difference.

I’m guessing it’s the HDD that are performing very slow, and slow at opening stuff etc. Time to move on with SSD and use HDD as a file storage..
I’ve done the visual effect (best performance) and did a re-assest of the Windows Experience (Scores for performance) 1.0 out of 7.9. Only one lowest is HDD.
Thank you for helping and I’m consider changing Corsair to OCZ 6GB RAM 1600 MHz or 1800 MHz double channel.

Well I’m not a big fan of Seagate. I’m huge fan of Western Digital, but since the store didn’t have any 500GB Caivar black WD then I bought Seagate Barracuda to use for awhile and upgrade to SSD for my dream
I have bad experience with Seagate in previous years (5 years ago) and making noises, performing very slow, bad read and writes.
Its time for an HDD upgrade.
Western Digital WD1002FAEX is a good choice as it uses 2 platters, a pretty fast HDD.
CCleaner is pretty good, just run that once in awhile. Do disk defragment once every few months. Optimize your services so you only run bare minimum. Thats all you need to do. Use blackviper to know what services to turn off

If these are your specs overclock your i7 chip in bios and it will speed up 10 folds. If you need help with overclocking let me know.
