Program for saving passwords

August 25th, 2018

Hi,
Can anyone suggest me a good and secure program for saving passwords and I mean like really secure… would be better if it doesn’t need an internet connection.
Thanks

Answer #1
It’s not the program that is secure, it’s the passwords… keep them long and with various characters and you are ok. Use keepass to store passwords:
http://keepass.info
Get the 1.xx version, it’s better than 2.xx imo.
Answer #2
Thanks, will check it out.
Answer #3
Try Ai Roboform …….. I use that to login everywhere and fill online forms where necessary.
Answer #4
The reviews on Roboform are much better than on keepass. Thanks Sid
Answer #5
If you want to use Roboform, you should pay for it. Cracked versions to secure passwords .. YIKES!
Unfort they have a yearly subscription. Keepass is a much better choice, and the one reason Roboforms has a better rating is that they were caught faking reviews and ratings a few years back .. What is that old saying .. a leopard can’t change its spots?

You got a point there. Thanks.

I’ve been using Roboform for years with no problem and the current Russian crack (rf7.patch.***) has been going for ages. The latest Roboform version is 79101 … You can get it here ……
http://2baksa.net/news/99878/ (note the password, all files from this site have that password)
If you do use Roboform consider changing the default data save to a folder outside your OS drive or partition so that if your OS partition goes down you don’t loose all your passwords. (Roboform/Options/User Data)
I think you’ll find the yearly subscription is for ‘paid for’ versions ……. Like I said, I’ve been using it for years and never had any issues or reminders about paying any subscription. Basically , what you said about Roboform above is a load of tosh and my experience with it goes against everything you say about it.
Answer #8
Not a load of tosh. Putting your sensitive password into a cracked version of a program is generally NOT a good idea unless you do a detailed analysis of what the patch is doing.
In this case, the patch file (from the link provided) accesses:
api-ms-win-security-base-l1-2-0.dll
api-ms-win-security-base-private-l1-1-0.dll
Not something a crack should need to do. Sid, although your experience has been ok, surely you must see this could be a potential threat.
With cracked versions, you take your chances, and for one, I don’t think risking your passwords to potential exposure is worth the risk when there are many alternative free options.
EDIT: poor grammar

I haven’t use Roboform for years, not because i stopped using it, but because i stopped using it lol. Meaning i don’t use any password managers now. So nothing wrong with it as far as i know. Also i used the portable versions, so no need for cracked. When i used it, you could store 10 passwords for free. So i had 3 different setups on 3 usb’s But i didn’t need that many passwords at the time. One thing i did read though was they stored passwords in plain text. Don’t know whether that changed or not. So what i mean is, if someone hacked your master password, used to get into Roboform, not only could they use all your passwords, which i guess any password manager is prone to, but you could also check and see what each password was in plain text.

Do a Google search for the patch filename.

6 out of 46 and of those 6, 2 are just possible and one is suspicious ….. And all the main Anti Virus programs give it the all clear. ……. The same or similar results appear on other such web sites …….. So, I’d say it’s fine.
& …… You can password protect Passcards/Identities/Safenotes with encryption choices: AES/Blowfish/RC6/3DES/DES. The cracked version gives you unlimited passwords etc.
I do a fair number of entering online competitions and it’s worth noting that most of the thousands of competitors like me use Roboform.
& …… Personally, I think that some people go way overboard when it comes to security. A lot of stuff is thrust upon us just so Anti-virus software companies can sell their stuff.

I have been using lastpass for years. it’s simply awesome!
a few times I’ve messed up and forgot the master password but I’ve always got back in.
you do need an Internet connection though.
login to your site, save the username and password with lastpass. make sure you have the master password logged in and you’re good to go.
like I said, I’ve been using it for years. you can use on iOS and android too. it’s basically just a plugin for your web browser or you can download the app.

If you want to try roboform right now for 1 year:
RoboForm is generally priced at $19.95 per 1-year single license for 1 PC. Interested users are now entitled to enjoy the power of RoboForm Everywhere for 1 year subscription at no cost.

I somewhat agree; however, I didn’t use virustotal for the patch (well I looked at the results and decided that they looked they were false-positives or were results paid for by the AV companies) – I checked to see what the patch actually did. For myself, when I see api’s being used that need not be used, I tend to err on the cautious side.

Agreed! Ever since learning about the browser extension I haven’t used a desktop password manager in years.
