Photoshop keeps crashing

September 1st, 2013

So I’ve looked everywhere, and found similar people with this issue, but NO ONE has found a solution. My Photoshop keeps crashing, I’ve tried multiples, CS5.1, CS5, CS4, etc. It’s always the same error message:

All my drivers and software are up-to-date, including Adobe products. There are no modifications to the Adobe files. All the hardware has been checked, no problems. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled several times. I just don’t get what the problem is…

Answer #1
I don’t think that is the latest version of PS CS5, although if it’s crashing with CS4 then it’s probably not a big issue.
Have you tried cleaning the registry and files after you uninstall? Deleting everything in the program folder. Adobe has a small App for that.

Yea, I clean my PC files and registry daily, and I made sure to after the uninstalls/etc.

Multiple places, I’ve tried the following few for example:
CS4 portable: some thread here.
CS5 portable: some thread here.
CS5: a reliable torrent.
CS5.5 (current): a reliable torrent.
Let me also note, it didn’t use to do this, just kinda started happening a few months ago. Also, the CS5 and CS5.5 I’ve been using are master collections. Both of which I’ve also installed Dreamweaver, which has no problems at all.
Also, just tried 32-bit to make sure it wasn’t 64-bit exclusive, still crashed. However, I checked the logs and there were 2, one at 5:40, and another at 5:46. The program ran fine until 5:46, so, there is a report at 5:40 of a crash but it was running smoothly.

You tried allocating more RAM (Preferences/Performance) to see if that makes any difference?

Saturnsid replied: You tried allocating more RAM (Preferences/Performance) to see if that makes any difference?
Just checked that, it’s already allocated 1512MB (be default), and when I check task manager during my work, it generally only uses around 100-300MB.
Answer #6
I was referring to a special Adobe cleaner and not some rubbish registry cleaner which should not be used because they tend to cause more problems than they solve. It could be that which is causing your problems if it deleted keys which were needed.
Get the Adobe cleaner and try that after uninstalling. Also manually delete the files in the program folder(s) and Adobe common files folders..
Answer #7
maybe you have a corrupted amtlib.dll file
if you had a cracked version then they would have given you another amtlib to crack it with.
replace that, if you haven’t already then delete the adobe_epic folder in your adobe folder
Answer #8
You tried disabling the Open GL on Preferences/Performance?

Doing this now, will post back in a few minutes.

Negative, the versions I use just block activation, no cracks/altercations.

Will test this if the above do not work.

maybe you should replace it, I’ve had heaps of trouble with just blocking activation, and I required the amtlib.dll file to be in the adobe folder for it to work. BTW: the amtlib.dll file is just a lifetime license, it’s not a crack.
The other reason I got a similar error was because I ran the installation off the CD/DVD/Image, it worked when I had copied all the files from the CD/DVD/Image, put them in a folder on my desktop and ran the installation from there. Deleting that folder after I had installed.
I’m just saying.. your having problems doing it your way..
Answer #11
If u really need it, try reformatting the computer. Maybe you have some mixups.
Answer #12
Well, here’s what I did which appears to have fixed the problem. I’m still scratching my head, but I won’t argue.
-Uninstalled Adobe CS5.5.
-Used the Adobe cleanup tool as suggested by Mighty_Marvel.
-Manually deleted the Adobe folders under Program Files and Common Files (x86 and default both).
-Restarted my PC.
-Reinstalled Adobe CS5.5.
So far everything is working correctly, I hope it stays that way. Thanks to those of you who helped

You should never use any registry cleaning software and most certainly not daily, it’s often just asking for trouble.
