PDF File Content Changed After Converting to Mobi

August 2nd, 2013

Looking for a little help here.
On my Kindle Fire, I downloaded the Kindle Android App and read my books through that. I can read PDF’s perfectly fine through the Kindle App, there are no issues with their display. But I don’t get the full benefit that I would if it were a mobi file. So, I converted my PDFs (using Calibre) from PDF to mobi, and then tried from PDF to prc. In both cases, the files were the equivalent of an AZW file, but the problem was that the eBook’s content was all over the place. If I had to guess, it would seem that mobi and prc files are controlled by html, because the content shows a bunch of consecutive sentences. Content that was supposed to be one a separate page is showing at the bottom of the previous page, for example.
Is there a way to convert a PDF to mobi without the eBook’s content being changed in any way?

can you print the PDF to a text file and then to mobi format

The trick is to use Adobe Acrobat Pro to convert the PDF to HTML, that way you’ll keep all the formatting, illustrations, table of contents, and whatnot.
Then load the HTML in Sigil to polish it up and convert to ePub.
Then convert the ePub to Mobi.(Mobi and EPUB formats are very similar so no formatting problems there). I don’t use Mobi so you’ll have to find an app that does that.
I tried many different ways to convert PDF to ePub and this gets the best looking results.
Some good information about general eBook conversion can be found here:

Thanks for the answer. That seemed to work somewhat, but I’m not able to figure out how to polish it up in Sigil. Content is still showing up on the wrong pages like one big run-on sentence. I just wanted my PDF eBook cover to show up in the Kindle Android App…it only does that with mobi files. But if I have to deal with jumbled up sentences, then I’ll keep the PDF file despite the thumbnail preview not showing up and the inability to use the dictionary that comes with mobi files in the Kindle app.

i’m with LedAstray, that’s the best way to convert a pdf to mobi but it still won’t be perfect.
and you may want to look at these links, they are not exactly what you asked for but i think they may help:

I downloaded an app last night from Amazon called “Send to Kindle.” That seemed to do the job. The book covers show up in the Kindle app just all the other ones.
