PC trouble

June 24th, 2023

My PC Specs are:
Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.20 Ghz RAM: 4 GB DDR3 G Skill
Motherboard: Asus M4A88T-M LE
PSU: Corsair CX500
OS: Windows 8.1 HDD: Seagate 1TB
My Problem is my PC would turn off randomly and wont start for a while, and by wont start I meant everything would run except the monitor, also I cannot hear the beep when the system runs (Which usually happens when everything runs normally) I also get lots of BSOD. Re-installed my OS twice but that wont help.
Any Ideas anyone?

Answer #1
sounds like heat issues. have you check your temps?
Answer #2
Random shutdowns are often a sign of overheating (as mentioned) or a bad power supply.
Answer #3
can you tell us your temps & do you have another PSU you can try?
Answer #4
It could also mean that your GPU died.

First of all, try booting on a different OS. You can, for example, try installing linux on a small partition, booting on it and putting some load on the box. See if it still happens when you do that. If it doesn’t it’s most likely a software issue. If it does, it’s most likely a hardware issue.
Try this first and post an update, we need to know what we’re up against.

I’m sorry I didn’t understand that part.

How do I find out my temps?? And no I don’t have another PSU
Answer #7
You can check temps in BIOS, or install a software such as realtemp or speedfan. CPUs and GPUs should ideally be under 85 degrees celsius, and will likely shutdown when reaching over 100 degrees
Upon re-reading your initial post, it should not be a graphics card issue.
Answer #8
Hi mate!
Try to do this mate!
1. Replace you power supply (if problem still exist)
2. Clean your Heatsink and Processor (if problem still exist)
3. Then maybe your motherboard has grounded & It means you gotta buy a new one.
Hope these will help!

There’s the temp you were looking for…

Try taking the bios battery out of your mother board for 10 minutes and put it back in again . This is what the battery will look like http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSprNERGzK_C1_NgSulmnARJqBpHBT-mxzVUbdpgfpbuQi8J-RM
If you do not know how to take the battery out check this video , it will help ya https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao866I9XpTo
Answer #11
@ i did that but it didn’t help
Answer #12
From the pic – Temp3 is -128c?????? or if that is just a smudge on my monitor 128C!!
Whichever number – positive or negative – that is likely the problem. If +, really .. running your pc at this temperature for any period of time is likely to at least shorten the life of all components, or at worst, just fry whatever is around the offending component. You should read the following thread. It does NOT look like your core settings are stock – you should definitely go into bios and reset to factory.

Just a false negative or you’re cooling with liquid nitrogen
Speedfan is just a universal app. so it often tries to connect to sensors that don’t exist..
One of your best apps, here is Aida64 Extreme…Can give all the info about your gear….Under Computer > Sensor”, it shows all temps and other stuff.
You can do the Stability Tests where you can monitor temps with CPU under full load.
Under “Preferences”, you can have sensors displayed in the notification area or on screen

Answer #14
The issue really does appear that the CPU is not at factory settings meaning that some type of overclocking has been attempted. You should (and must) reset the bios to bring back to factory and let the system run.
Go from there if you still have a problem.
Answer #15
Is it possible for you to check the Event Viewer for system errors?
Personally, I don’t think this is temp issue, altho they are not as low as I would have.
47c is quite high for idle but it is AMD..
Also, 65c for GPU is quite high as well, but again, AMD. they are built to work with higher temps and again, i don’t think this is your issue.
What I suspect is a faulty GPU / PSU / Motherboard / RAM, by this order.
You’re saying that the setup itself turns on but the screen won’t show any boot process.
Answer #16
@ yes thats right, that happens when the CPU turns off itself
Answer #17
How can you be sure that the CPU turns off itself?
Answer #18
well I keep playing games or be doing any work on the pc then suddenly the screen shuts down and i cannot hear anything except for the fans of the CPU
The sounds of the fans whirring are abnormal because the sound that it makes seems like its taking alot of load
Answer #19
I don’t know much about asus m boards which makes the fans running after failure. most m boards, when cpu temp skies high the bios option is shutting the system down including the fans.
Answer #20
Is your GPU overclocked as well? A BIOS reset won’t set the graphics card back to factory.
Answer #21
nope,i don’t know how to do all that overclocking stuffs hence i never tried any
Answer #22
have you tried switching the PSU, happend to mine
Answer #23
that would be my last resort..
Could this be some sort of compatibility issue or power issue??
I was told by a fellow friend that I wont have trouble running this gig with this PSU when I bought it…
I just don’t understand what’s wrong
Answer #24
psu reduce their supply with time if there wasn’t enough headroom like it should.. maybe it’s unlucky for u?
Answer #25
I would like to point out that the pc, if it turns on, would have the time changed as well…does this leads to any clue of the problem??
Answer #26
saying this i would think the Mboard is done..
the bios battery is supposed to hold this information and assuming the battery cant cause bsod after windows is up.. (that i dont know)
the board itself is damaged or corrupted.. anyone can give another thought for my words? thanks
Answer #27
Well have you tested/changed the bios battery?
Answer #28
To be honest reading your original post.. It sounds like your Graphics card could be over heating or is completely faulty.
You said when you reboot the computer seems to work apart from the monitor right?
Try get another Graphics card to try. If that don’t work then maybe you need to be looking at other issues.
Answer #29
Sorted it out… It was the issue of the Power Supply
Thanks to all the guys who helped me through this
