Pc Randomly Switches Off

August 4th, 2016

Hello,
Hopefully someone can help me with this problem as it’s really driving my Father in-law up the wall.
Anyway, his PC has been switching itself off at random times over the last few weeks and seems to be getting worse.
Sometimes it will last an hour, sometimes less.
When it does shut off – he has to turn the power off at the switch, wait about 10 seconds and then resart the PC.
I dont know if the processor is the cause of the problem or maybe his hhd or another component over heating to cause this

Answer #1
check for viruses and spywares , it could be a random program that switches your pc off every time you switch it on
Answer #2
What type of switch off is it?
Does it shutdown via ACPI (Goes through shutdown process, like normally would)
Does it just switch off (You might hear a click noise on power off, sounds like something is slowing down)
The first one would be software related, the second one would be hardware related.
let us know.
Answer #3
Ive Done a virus and spyware scan and it found none …
and brillumsphere its just switches off no shutdown process like as if you switch it off by the plug socket that kinda shutdown
and any ideas wat software or hardware ??
Answer #4

Answer #5

GPU 47oC
Answer #6
If your computer randomly switches off, chances are it is overheating.
Try cleaning out for motherboard and case, make sure you remove all dust from the tower.
Answer #7
There’s a prog called Everest to check CPU temperatures, and other features too.
Answer #8
or it could be a PSU problem
Answer #9
I’d say faulty PSU , usually random intervals of sudden poweroffs are connected with the behaviour of aged capacitors and other malfunctioning analog circuits.
Answer #10
Just a quick update ”Should of really said this wen i first posted Pc doesnt switch itself off while using the internet !! Iit happens wen playing a online game such as Lineage2 or archlord would the shut down be cause by the processor or something else !!! i dont know if itll be the heatsink paste on the processor and fan dryed up ???
Answer #11
sounds like a hardware problem.
there could be a couple of things causing this.
Something is overheating (try to open tower and clean out all the fans)
faulty PSU
Faulty ram (google memtest86+ to test)
