New computer and hard drives aren’t showing up

August 8th, 2016

Got my new setup and the two most important Hard Drive aren’t showing up. So frustrating. http://postimg.org/image/rchjgzc5n/
What can I do to make them show up in my computer and give me full access to them. I really need to copy some files from the not initialized drive to the unallocated one. Thanks.

Is your motherboard capable of handling hard drive sizes that are 2tb or up?

disk 2 not partitioned?

Disk 1 not formatted?
disk 2 not partitioned?

Fixed disk 1.. Disk two is proving to be difficult as the options are limited.
Answer #5
right click the grey area to the left where it says Disk 2. Do not make it a dynamic disk

Those are my options
Answer #7
initialize it
Answer #8
initialize it Trying to do that does not work. I just checked my BIOS and it’s not even detected there. I get an error message. Trying to replicate it to tell you what the error says but it’s taking forever to access disk management right now.
Answer #9
hmmm… odd that disk mgt sees it when bios doesn’t
is it maybe a non-windows partition ?
linux swap partition maybe?
Answer #10
hmmm... odd that disk mgt sees it when bios doesn't exactly.. Today I could have seen it in the bios but now I can’t..
Answer #11
you could try unplugging all your drives, plug the drive in question as your primary disk, and use your windows disk to try and partition and format it
Answer #12

Answer #13
One more thing guys – I don’t want to lose any data on the drive that’s not initializing. THanks again.
Please do not double post, -
#3.7 I It is forbidden to double post on the board. It means that you are not allowed to reply twice in a row in any topic. Use the edit button when altering your reply if you're the last to post in the topic.

Answer #14
then definitely don’t format it or partition it. All data would then be lost
Answer #15
You only need the OS partition to be set to ‘active’ all other partitions/drives should be set to ‘none’ ………… I see you also got D: and System Reserved set to active.
Download Hirens Boot CD ……… There are loads of tools on that to help sort out your problem, it even has a live mini XP to help you along.
You could also try plugging the HD into different data sockets on the motherboard to see if that helps.
I’m not sure what OS you are using, but check out the maximum number of primary partitions you can have on any one HD.

i’m using windows 8.
Answer #17
The drive might have gotten a corrupt partioning table and you most likely will need to recreate the table, there are several software to do so. I’ve had this one issue with a HDD not showing up under bios because of that same reason.
Answer #18
Give me some advice on recreating it.
Answer #19
i'm using windows 8
My advice ………………… Set it all up using Windows 7. Windows 8 and Windows 8 preview are still buggy with all sorts of problems showing up across the internet. Do a dual boot if you must try Windows 8 out. As yet I definitely wouldn’t have it as the main OS.
You could try disconnecting all your drives apart from the one that doesn’t show up then if that shows up in the BIOS use Hirens Boot CD to fix the problem.
I’m assuming you have read the motherboard manual thoroughly in respect of this problem you are having.

which tools on hiren boot will do the trick ? The thing I upgraded because on windows 7 I was having problems with it. It was still booting up at the time but when it did the computer was very sluggish. Last night I was able to choose the messed up drive as the one to boot with and it did only up to the windows 7 logo then it crashed to blue screen of death. After that I tried again then it said BootMGR missing..
Answer #21
So, do you have both Windows 7 & Windows 8 installed? The missing boot manager usually implies more than one OS installed and I’d suggest EasyBCD as your boot manager. I did mention you should only have the OS drive active, have you ‘deactivated’ (set them to none) your other drives/partitions?
Answer #22
On the disk I would like to recover the files from I have windows 7 installed.. On the new system I have it’s windows 8. On the bad HD it appears every other start up..When I do get it to start up usually I can get it to the boot up only to the windows 7 icon then there’s a bluuescreen then it crashes – usually after this I get missing booth. So it’s not consistent. I downloaded windows 7 today and i’m going to try and run it on a usb….. Keep in mind I tried to install windows 8 on the bad HD hoping it would create that windows.old folder with all the files I needed. Instead I got an error when it tried to copy the files – at 0% completed. It’s like I can’t get access to the bad HD and i’m worried I might need to bring it to a professional to copy the files..might cost me. lol. Which Hiren tool would work ? i’m going to try to repair it with windows 7 now tho.
Answer #23
Okay I tried using windows 7 to repair any boot issues but the problem remains. http://postimg.org/image/5kbsnlvzr/ This is the blue screen of death I get whenever I try to boot into the BAD HD when it does show up.. I did notice one change when I booted into the new system. The Drive appear in Computer management/disk management – file size -unallocated – but this time when I tried to initialize the error reads “this request could not be performed because of an I/O device error” ..
Answer #24
Tried using this program – this is the response I got… Looks like nothing can save me now.. I wonder how much it cost to have it recovered by a professional http://postimg.org/image/567ajxdtj/

Disconnect all but the defective drive then, if it shows up in the BIOS, use Hirens Boot CD to fix things. Since it has Windows 7 on it you could try a repair install with the DVD if it can access the drive. Concentrate on trying to repair the defective drive and don’t go wasting money using as professional service until all your options have been used up …………. So, go get Hirens Boot CD and take it from there. And remove any USB drives you have plugged in when you do this.

I have Hirens ready but how will I do it using the disks ? I’m concerned about the warnings which state if I continue trying to access the drive it will only make things worst.

Download Hirens .iso and burn it to a CD.
Make the CD/DVD drive the first to boot in the BIOS.
Put the CD in your drive them reboot.
If Hirens CD doesn’t autoboot just watch your screen then press a key when it says something like ‘Boot from CD.
Then have a look at the stuff Hirens has to offer …. It’s always best to get a bit of familiarity with the content before you start using any of the programs.
