need help urgent

I have just had to do a system recoverey on my puter its a hp running xp..
What I want to ask is before i did this i only had 15% left of space on my drive its only 108gb but dont understand why i only have this now i thought a recovery wiped it back or are my files still on here somewhere to access?
and also where can i find out what is taking up some much space?

Recovery only effects system files and settings. For example if you deleted a movie and did a system recovery afterwards you would not get the movie back.

and now I cant get into my disc defrag its says mmc cannot open the file c;/windows/system32.dfrg.msc
this maybe because the file does not exsist, is not a mmc console or you dont have access right to the file HELP???????
