Mkv videofile to anyother to with subtitle..

I have a problem and that is that i got a Mkv file WITH self edited subs.
I want to convert it to a file to keep my subs when they watch it but i just couldn’t succeed!
I tried to mp4,avi,vob.. but not any shows the subs if i upload it to youtube,facebook… .
How can i convert WITH KEEPING my subs?
Have you tried hard subbing it? Many *good* encoders have a hard sub option, by good I don’t mean those crappy paid ones, the free ones are always better!
what is hardsubbing man?
I just edited manually subs and that i saved to a srt file and merged it together with mkv merge. Isn’t that good enough?
