Linux swap error

August 5th, 2016

hi guys
i was installing Redhat enterprise linux server 5….i formatted one partition in windows to install linux.when it asks for partitions for /and /boot and swap during installation.i gave 7 GB for root and 100 Mb for boot and 4 GB as Swap space.(double of my RAM) but it says ” could not create partition, not enough space left to allocate” but i formatted a 19 GB partition.13 GB is still left after 7 GB of / space.why it says not enough space left.can u please help me.i have to install now.

Answer #1
It sounds like it’s trying to allocate free space, which there’s none of because you’ve already created partitions. See if you can specifically make it use existing partitions (and make sure they’re the right filesystems), or leave free space and use the installer to create them itself.
Answer #2
i cant let it take other partitionsi have imp data in all drives.
Answer #3
Once you created a partition you can’t really change it unless you format and edit it.
Answer #4
its done.actually i was selecting opion of fixed size.but we have to choose fill up to <space> so its solved now.anyways thanks guys
