ISP suspension and VPN’s

August 3rd, 2013

I’m going to be getting a new internet service soon, against my will, and they’re an extremely small company. They talked to me about piracy while they were installing the service and warned me that they’re small and check up on their users excessively. I can either download warez or torrents, torrents being more risky, but will a VPN safeguard me from my own ISP company and keep my downloads anonymous that they’ll never find out what the downloads actually are?

Are you serious, mate? He’s clearly asking here for a reason, don’t be a ~censored~ and link him to that.
Answer #3
Yes, with a VPN you should stop your ISP from knowing what you are downloading, but make sure you get a decent one, specially an Off-shore.
Answer #4
They won’t be able to see what you are downloading, but if they are excessive amounts in their eyes, then they will know what you are up to, ISP’s are not stupid.
If you get any crap from them, tell them it’s HD home movies that you are editing and transferring

I found that pretty funny, but at the time google kept giving me a server redirection error for all of their services, that’s why I didn’t google it.
Thanks for the responses, I’ve never dealt with a VPN before but I’ve done my research and I think I’m good.

Have you got one already? I’ve heard really good things about this one:

Using a VPN does not hide your bandwidth usage, This much is true, But I think your being a little too paranoid.
Yes ISPs are not stupid so don’t underestimate em, Surely most people who pay for high speed internet will
use it to download movies/shows/games and such, That is to be expected, Usually they won’t get any complaints
from the ISP in this regards, Unless of course they maxed their bandwidth limit (some ISPs do have those) or are true
hardcore downloaders (I.E 50GB a day, Not very common)

I have used them for some years, with no problems whatsoever, they have great support if you ever need it.
My ISP used to be one of the fastest in the UK, before fibre, and they have a genuine Unlimited policy, and they openly boast that they have never warned or capped anyone for excessive usage (I’ve downloaded 3TB in a month before), the only time they have used their FUP is when someone was spamming with their smtp servers.
They have a forum run by their own staff, and they clearly know what’s going on, they are downloading warez too, but don’t openly broadcast it.
These days bandwidth usage is getting higher and higher anyway with legitimate stuff such as TV on demand etc.

Yeah, the problem is, I’m moving and the only service there is with a very small company with a low cap (about 200GB a month for downloads), but I will manage to keep it low. Bandwidth caps kill legit (& cool) services like Netflix, hulu, etc.
Anyone used HideMyA$$ VPN?
