Is it worth paying 200 pounds extra for gtx 970m over gtx960m ?

August 4th, 2016

Seen two laptops, one is 17.3 with 2gb gtx 960m, and the other is 15.6 3gb gtx 970m. Honestly, I don’t think either would be able to play games like Battlefront on really high settings, so what kind of performance can I realistically expect ? BTW, both come with 8gb ram and i7 Sharkbay i7-4720HQ.

My lappy has an 870m… it plays everything so far beautifully, including things like Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Alien Isolation, Bioshock Infinite, Dishonoured, etc.
So, my opinion – no, you don’t need the 970, especially if its 200 quid dearer!
Mind you… my 870M is a 6 gig memory version… but that really only affects texture storage and loading.

the performance difference is worthy for standard oem gtx 960 and gtx 970 but when it comes to laptops they add so much premium price then it becomes unworthy. if you mean starwars battlefront , you may have problems with gtx 960 if you try to run it at ultra on 1080p , with gtx 970 you dont.
gtx 960 also not a very good gpu overall just mediocre , gtx 970 has better price/performance ratio but in your case things may change due to absurd premium price. i m always against buying high end laptops or any laptop for gaming. they are trying to rob you.
