Is It Safe To Jailbreak iPhone Now?

October 24th, 2020

I’ve been waiting quite some time for news on jailbreak. There’s been news on greenpois0n and limera1n, and I wanted to know if it safe to jailbreak my iPhone now, or should I wait longer.
Here are my iPhone 3GS details:
Version: 3.1.2 (7D11)
Model: MC131ZA
Modem Firmware: 05.11.07
Previous jailbreak: limera1n
The main concern is if I will loose any feature or even be able to jailbreak without bugs. I can’t use my iPhone without a jailbreak.
Thanks!

Answer #1
for 3.1.2 JB you should use blackra1n, Spirit or redsn0w
for 3.1.3 Spirit
for 4.0 JailbreakMe
for 4.0.1/4.0.2 limera1n
for 4.1 greenpois0n… (only iPhone 4 and 3Gs ) and redsn0w (only 3Gs)
You are kinda late….
Your biggest concern should be SHSHs blobs.. nothing else…

I suggest you use Pwnage tool. You should not have any problems.
But act fast, there is an imminent update of ios 4.2 which might not enable to have an untethered Jailbreak and currently has no Unlock.
In plain English an untethered unlock means once jail-broken you the jailbreaks is applied each time you reboot. A tethered jailbreak will require you to connect your device to your computer if you reboot. At the moment all jailbreaks are Untethered.
Again i suggest you use Pwnage tool because it will let you use the ultrasn0w unlock (which enables you to use any sim card from any carrier) by not updating your baseband ( modem firmware ).

A very detail guide of how to jailbreak and what is available can be found here:

I hope I have been helpful.

Well there is no 4.2 out yet on iTunes… so he can’t update it

So now that my firmware is 3.1.2, I should use Pwnage tool to upgrade my firmware to 4.1 and they will do the jailbreaking for me, right? Is there anything else I need? Backups etc…
@ What do you mean that I’m kinda late?

If you want to use iPhone with other SIM cards ( other network carriers ) then you need to use PWNage tool ( mac ) or sn0wbreeze (win ) to make custom IPSW in order to preserve updating BB!
If you don’t need unlock then you can restore to 4.1 and use current tool for JB!
Answer #11
Oh, so that means if I don’t need to switch to other providers (e.g at&t, verizon), I don’t need to use PWNage tool or sn0wbreeze, and just need to do a normal firmware update then jailbreak?

Something like that…
CUSTOM IPSW is made to preserve baseband updating…
Regular update/restore will update BB!

I heard that unlocking is so that I will not be locked into AT&T. But I don’t live in the US, so does that mean I don’t need the unlock? I will still be able to use my original carrier right?
Answer #14
it doesnt matter where you live…unlocking will just allow you to use a diff carrier as long as it uses the same band (in the USA att is only carrier of the iphone) unlocked it will work with t-mobile in the USA…it varies country by country
Answer #15
Unlocking enables you to use your phone with other GSM carriers. If you’re using it with the same carrier you bought it from, you have nothing to worry about…If I were you I’d update to 4.1 ASAP, 4.2 will likely be out tomorrow and as such, they will stop signing 4.1 shortly.

Thank you all for your help. Now I’ve successfully jailbroken my iPhone, but I’ve got a new problem.
I just read an article that says in the process of upgrading a jailboken phone, you’ll loose 500MB of space. Now I have 1GB of “Others” in my iPhone. Is there a way I can recover this lost space?

Well root partition is around 800MB so don’t worry!
Answer #19
What I mean is that I’ve lost 500MB of space to nothingness. Is there a way I can recover that lost space so that I have more space for other things?

Do you know what are you talking?!
Do you complain when you loose 15GB even more when you install Windows 7 on your PC?! Dude that is reserved for System, you can’t do nothing about that…

Read point 1 at http://gigaom.com/apple/jailbreak-five-things-you-need-to-know
I’m trying to say that 500MB was used by my previous jailbreak. Now that I jailbroke again, I’ve used another 500MB. The previous 500MB is not in use, and effectively lost.
Unless I’ve misread/misunderstood the article, I think my question should make sense.

Don’t worry this is not the case. The used space is mostly for the firmware which is the iOS operating system. The jailbreak takes a very limited space. Everytime you upgrade the newer firmware overwrites the older one so again no need to worry.

All right. Thank you all for helping me out!
