Iphone 4 help!

My dad just bought me an Iphone 4 second hand of this guy.
Well turns out he never removed his pin code and so i cant access the phone,tried riniging him but his phone is shut, is their anyway i can do to remove the pin code?

Stick it in dfu or recovery mode and update via itunes
