Installing Windows XP on my 2010 laptop

September 22nd, 2013

Hi folks,
Before I start I have 2 machines, a laptop and desktop. This laptop is just something I have fun with around the house and when I travel. The desktop is my main machine running Win 7.
Just wondering if its possible at all to install XP on a modern laptop that only has drivers (provided by Toshiba) for Windows 7?

Answer #1
Yes, you should be able to find chipset drivers…but why would you want to install XP on a computer that new?
Answer #2
It’s possible..If you search hard enough..You might find XP drivers..
Try here:

Answer #3
umm,
yes but then you will have to do without sound and lan i guess.
Have a try, if it doesn’t work try win7 again.
Try a 25000 or something like that driver CD from the Apps Section
afik win7 drivers won’t work on xp.
then again why do you want to install xp.
Try Ubuntu (Linux), you will be happier, no drivers runs without anything out of the box.
Answer #4
I just like the look and feel of XP. This is a laptop just for browsing the net and listening to music. Nothing special.
The Toshiba site doesnt have graphics or LAN drivers which could be difficult.
Linux and me didn’t get a long. I appreciate it but its too hard for me sometimes.
Answer #5
You can always just get a theme that looks and feels like windows xp for 7.
Answer #6
I was using the Windows Classic theme for some time but I find it to be strangely laggy. I dont know if its a Windows bug or not.
try it out sometime, you’ll see that graphics lags when you max/minimize windows but its fine on Windows Aero display.
Answer #7
You will be able to get all necessary drivers for XP. Easiest way is to get them one by one from the components manufacturers sitse.
eg. Chipset – probably Intel
wi-fi card, Intel, Atheros, whatever.
Just run something like speccy on your laptop to get the exact components. (If you want more in depth, use Sandra by SiSoft.)

Contrary to popular belief, XP is not obsolete
Most Corporate setups are XP pro
Answer #8
Get XP with integrated SATA drivers.
Answer #9
My motherboard states Toshiba so do I need to look for Toshiba drivers or should I break it up individually?
Eg. my Chipset is AMD 785GX (so i download 7-series?)

you may need those drivers integrated if you lappy is SATA/AHCI and you can’t set emulate IDE from in the BIOS
lots of SP3 XP iso’s have those drivers integrated
and many other drivers as well
install before you start looking for drivers as most will be installed
as an option
Ive installed TinyXP rev11 on some later lappy’s than yours and only had to get video & smartcard reader drivers
TinyXP has a great driver pack, and I been using it since 2002 (rev03)
installing full XP is a waste of disk space and resources (i.e. memory)
Answer #12
if u have tried ill give it a go thanks! I’m always paranoid about silent keyloggers
Answer #13
post back with any problems/questions
and good luck !
Answer #14
I unfortunately could not find a working link to rev11. All links are dead on WBB. I installed rev09 instead. Need to get audio, network and video drivers.
Answer #15
I cannot believe AMD don’t have XP drivers for Mobility Radeon HD 4xxx series while I can get the drivers for Linux…….

Just download from a thread which has the most replies/comments, you need that XP to get things working in the easiest way. Either way its your choice completely,

Haha, really? That’s poor, you could try the Win7 drivers and see if they work.

use the “desktop” version and use “Mobility Modder – ATI Version” to make them “laptop drivers”
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php
go into device mgr and get the “hardware_ID” under details for the lan and audio
example – PCI\VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx
