Install A Different Operating System on a Different Drive?

August 6th, 2016

On my computer, I have 1 hard drive that is used for my main operating system, Vista. I have another one that is the same size and currently isn’t in use. I was wondering if I could install OSX/Linux on that drive (E) but still keep all of my settings and Vista on the other drive (C). Then, could I boot up one of them at a time or do a dual boot?
Answer #1
Just change to boot order in the bios and move that drive to be the first drive…Install what ever you want…That way if mess up…No big loss..Just change back to your other drive and you are back using your vista…

if ur looking for a linux based os than just download the iso and burn it onto a cd. most linux os have a live cd which will guide u through everything just make sure u boot from the cd
Answer #3
Yes, you could also install another windows, like Windows 7 and it would ask which you wanted to boot from at startup. It will not change your current settings.

then you did a failed uninstall of grub.
your best option to do is as said, set boot order to your 2nd hard drive, get linux(I suggest ubuntu) & use the standard boot loader that comes with it(grub). it should have no problem to detect vista on the 1st disk. if you de-install linux set boot priority back to disk 1.
note: to correctly uninstall linux from a linux/windows dualboot you need to remember to make the windows partition bootable again. that’s most likely where missed.

Yes
Answer #8
if u install linux, use the grub loader…he will let you choose which system do u want to boot…
if you install osx use chameleon boot loader…it does the same thing as grub loader…
have fun
