I have a Dell Windows Media Center Edition CD but no CD Key

August 3rd, 2016

What I want to know is, it it legal to have a disk, but not the CD key?
I’m sure the answer is probably no, but if I did have an illegal CD key, would Windows detect it when I connect to the internet and shut the system down/send police to my house?! I’ve never got an illegal CD key before, but my laptop needs a new installation bad, its unable to System Restore (virus) and it can’t be formatted (Ctrl+F11 at startup), it just says ” Cannot be formatted “.
But like I said before, I have the Disk but not the CD key, and when I put in the disk(after the computer has completely started up) to install a new installation it runs the program, asks if I want to Install Windows Media, or if I want to view help files etc, and when I click to Install it asks me for the CD key, and doing a Repair doesn’t work.
So 3 questions, can anyone post a working Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP2 CD key; and, though surely illegal, will I get busted by Microsoft with even a 1% chance; and what happens if I DID get busted?
Thanks!
