Red_Hot_Chili_Peppers-Californication-CD-FLAC-1999-AUDIO
I downloaded these albums.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen something new since the rar event (as in I didn’t understand why movies had to be split into several parts -_- wbb noob i was).
What have I downloaded? Why are they not small mp3 files, why are they like 35mb per song?
Ta.

Answer #1
They are lossless files
http://flac.sourceforge.net
If you want to convert them to mp3 then a good app is dBpoweramp music converter.
Or just download from links that state mp3 format (not FLAC, or APE etc)
Answer #2
Use foobar2000 to play it, these are flac files, not mp3
Answer #3
FLAC is the best quality available, I only download and listen to FLAC these days, unless it’s for my mobile. With FLAC, you have the same quality as the original CD, if you burn it to CD, it will be identical to the original, even if you do a file compare, whereas MP3 will be totally different.
Answer #4
Other than foobar,You could also use Winamp.

You can play FLAC with later versions of Windows Media player
Answer #6
If you want to, you can convert them to mp3 format. This will make the file smaller and allow them to be played on an mp3 player.
While there will be a loss in quality, the debate is endless as to when you can hear that difference.
If you convert them to mp3 at the 320kbps bit rate, (the highest) you’ll never be able to hear any difference.\
Find some converters here…

Some MP3 Players support FLAC actually,But yeah it’d be more space efficient to do so,It’d probably be a good idea to keep the
originals tho.

You may have something there,But I’d like to point out that CBR (Constant bit-rate) is oldschool and a waste of space,VBR (Variable bit-rate) is the way to go,VBR V0>320KBPS,Both dbpoweramp music converter/easy cd-da extractor can do this.
Answer #8
you can play flac with K-lite mega codec pack installation: play with media player classic
another good way is foobar
Answer #9
FLAC files you may want to keep as storage, you know, like a backup. Just convert the FLAC files into 320kbps mp3s if you still want the fairly high quality.

Sounds good, But as a side note. If you’re just starting out with downloading then it might be worth sticking to lossy till you’ve built up a good audio library then source lossless formats when you are absolute certain you’re defiantly keeping the files.
My music library changes so much in short space off time Quality prevails over quantity and all that.. but yeah I don’t fcuk with lossless formats just 320CBR it gives nice leverage as If I can’t find 320Kbps I can DL lossless then convert down I’m always deleting music so it would be a waste of time to source lossless straight off the bat and besides if I really want the lossless it’s easy to pop on Internet and find a copy later down the line.
FLAC files are hugh and aren’t the easiest to handle in large quantity’s. I like being able to attach ID3/ID2 tags onto my MP3 to keep them labeled up correctly & nicely their’s a lot off restrictions on lossless to add D tags
Answer #11
Keep FLAC, it sounds better than MP3; exactly like the CD it was ripped from. Plus you can add complete tags on them including album art just like an MP3 using Tag&Rename 3.5.7. I collect music in FLAC and APE exclusively, and in FLAC/CUE or APE/CUE if possible instead of individual tracks.
Answer #12
you can also get high bitrate mp3s not just 300kbs but people don’t want to bother whit it they just flac fanboys
