How to Upgrade Win10 Home to Professional?

August 1st, 2016

Hi everyone,
I recently got a Win10 Home laptop, but I would like to upgrade it to pro. I would prefer not to use KMS Pico activator if possible. I am trying to first downgrade to Win8.1Pro then upgrade to Win10 Pro so I could get a genuine key.
I’ve tried the following:
•Downgraded to Win8.1 Pro and entered a Key found on Google. •Then activated Win8.1 Pro with Microsoft ToolKit
•Downloaded Win10 version 1511
•modified the ei.cfg file and placed it into the source folder of the Win10 .iso
the ei.cfg reads:
[EditionID]
Professional
[Chan]
Retail

•because I have the ei.cfg, I am now able to select Win10 Pro, but I am never prompted to enter a key (I think it’s pulling my Win10 Home key from bios)
•Win10 Pro installs but I cannot Activate it because I think it is conflicting with my bios key (for Win10 Home)
Any help would be great.
Thank you!!

First you say Win10 Home laptop, then you say upgrade 8.1 Pro to 10 pro. Which is it, is your starter OS 8.1 Pro or is it 10 home? It can’t be both

The Laptop came with Win10 Home. But I’m trying to upgrade to Win10Pro by first downgrading to Win8.1Pro
I hope that makes sense.
Thank you

Afaik if you do a full format and clean install of 8.1 and activate that one you should be able to upgrade to 10 Pro, IF 8.1 passes the genuine test. Doubt key’s can be “hardcoded” into a bios or anything. They’re usually hardcoded in the initial OS installation and nowhere else. That said, you have to keep in mind that if you downgrade, you may run into initial driver issues.
Or you can just do it the easy way and buy the $99 upgrade directly from within 10 Home

I think that Microsoft would have registered your hardware IDs when it was originally activated in Win 10 Home.
Therefore you cannot fool it by going down to 8 and then back up to 10 Pro.
I would just use the KMSPico method, (quick, easy and keeps activating) although you could use the $99 upgrade as suggested..
