home media streaming

so i was wondering how i could set-up a home server that can STREAM media i.e. music and movies…
I was able to set-up apache and file zilla ftp
so I have http: and ftp: working…. what would i need to do now to be able to stream?
i found something called media hive http://www.mhive.org/ which is basically what i want, but there are issues with video playback and such….
so any advice?

You mean from one computer to another on the same network? Just share the file~ Folders are not allowed ~/drive.

no like on the internet.. so i can access it from while i’m not at home or friends can access it…
like i said i have ftp: working, but i was wondering how i would go about streaming the media instead…

It will be limited to your max upload speed…may or may not even be worth it.

yeah i noticed after i posted… my speed is 5Mb/s upload…
