Help with this adobe reader thing…

November 12th, 2013

So here’s the thing
I re-installed my OS (win 7 x86). I re-installed Adobe reader 10.1.1. Now when i am trying to open any pdf file it asks me to choose from the installed programs.
The problem is, I can’t find the reader on the recommended or other programs list. I browse the reader and nothing opens. The only way i can open any pdf is by opening the reader, click on Open and browse my pdf file.
Can anyone please tell me why this is happening? I have re-installed the Adobe reader a couple of times by now…
(Am not very good at computers and stuff so any help will be great)

Try this:
control panel > programs > default programs > associate a file type or protocol with a program
Scroll down & choose .pdf. Click “change program”. Browse to prog files(x86) and choose your Adobe reader .exe.

No problem; I forget sometimes that humor, especially sarcasm, doesn’t transgress well in print across different countries.
That was a quote I used from an American comedian; Daniel Lawrence Whitney known as “Larry the Cable Guy.”

That doesn’t help me. I have also written why it doesn’t.
When the Open With window appears, it doesn’t show the reader in recommended or default programs. I try to browse it and nothing happens though i do have the reader installed…

What do you mean you try to browse to it and nothing happens? Are you actually browsing to to the directory that contains the adobe reader .exe ?

Can you find the program in your start menu? Did you try to reinstall it?

Hmmm. I don’t know what else to suggest. It’s not a prob I’ve encountered before… but if you’re browsing to the exe it should just work
One more obvious suggestion then (I’m sure you know this but just throwing it out there) : Right click on a .pdf file > select open with > If adobe reader isn’t listed under “recommended programs” then browse to it. The important part : Make sure to enable “always use the selected program to open this type of file”.
