October 19th, 2013

I actually have no wired internet in my house all wireless
cable comes in from wall into a modem then into a wireless router…then ethernet cable comes out runs into the ceiling across house into another wireless router (one couldnt cover the whole house)
somehow one has a password and my laptop wont reach the other box b/c its too far away and I cant log into this one b/c noone knows the password or how it got on there
what do I do?

All modems / routers have reset switch.
Normally It’s a pin hole somewhere on the modem / router.
You stick a pin in it and it resets it back to factory settings and clear any password etc.

If nobody knows the password to the router interface, you need to look up the default password for your router and log into the admin interface to change the wireless password.
If nobody knows the router password, you can try doing a 30/30/30 reset on it, then try the default password again.

On most routers (that I have worked on) just pressing the reset pin will not clear the NVRAM. For that you need to do the 30/30/30 hard reset for that.

Glad it worked for you. I have no idea why people think that just pressing the reset button will reset the NVRAM. I have never in my life seen a router that works that way.
MAKE SURE to log in to your router admin interface with the default username and password and set up your wireless security. If you don’t set a password anyone can leech your internet, and possibly connect to your computer’s network shares if their not properly protected.
