Help regarding GB

I bought a new Laptop from PC World…
HP Stream 11-d007na 11″ Laptop – Blue
Windows
Intel® Celeron® Processor N2840
Memory: 2 GB
Hard drive: 32 GB eMMC

I just went to update to Windows 10 on it yet it’s saying I need 9gb of spare memory…
obviously being 32gb I thought there would b 9gb spare,
yet when checking the C: it’s saying 8.1gb free of 21.6gb
I restored the Laptop just incase when I bought it there were things already installed,
so restored it all but it’s still saying the same, and that’s without any extra software etc,
so why is there only 8.1gb left?
Please remember to double check that all your links have been coded. #3.10 links must be coded - including, but not limited to, e-mail addresses, passwords and internal links.

Why, for the simple fact that the windows installation alone takes up 3/4 of the available harddrive space. The computer business counts values in 1000’s, not the real binairy value of 1024.
So 32,000,000,000 / 1024³ = 29.8 GB actually available. Deduct from that the space the actual windows installation takes (about 20GB) and you’ve got your 8GB left right there.
I hate to say this, but what you’ve got there is nothing more than and old glorified windows smartphone. There’s 2 year old smartphones nowadays that are more powerful than that thing. Why buy a pc wich such a limited harddrive space, Some current games nowadays would take up 1.5x the size of that entire harddrive.
Return it if you can, it aint worth the money you paid for it.

With those spects..I suggest Windows 7 Starter..

I use a 27″ iMac daily, but I have a Thermal Printer so I wanted to get a cheap Windows Laptop just to print from as the Zebra Drivers are made for Windows (not Mac)
and this was the cheapest one…
this isn’t my main ‘computer’, just to print from, it came with Windows 8.1 on there (think it’s 8.1? I haven’t used Windows for years)
no problem though, just wondered why there was only so little gb left even though it’s ‘new’ and nothing has been added yet….
I also noticed it has the main program files folder, and then another folder with the same things but x86
the Laptop is 64bit so is that x86 (32bit) folder needed? tried to remove it but it said about permissions or something :-/
Again, it’s just to print from and not to ‘run anything’, but was just wondering about how it has so little space without actually doing anything on it yet.

Program Files (x86) is where 32 bit software get installed..You can’t remove it..It’s part of the system..
The space sound about right to me..Windows 7 takes between 20 to 30 GB of space..
Answer #5
The OS is 20 GB; that laptop is a waste of moneys. You would be better off using a virtual machine for Windows rather than having a laptop with 32GB.
Answer #6
You’ve probably got a lot of HP bloatware which you could uninstall to free up space in order to fit that 9gb requirement Some of that space is most likely taken up by some recovery files; best not to touch those, unless you know how to move it onto a USB to free up space
It may also be advantageous to just forgo the upgrade and directly install a new, fresh copy of W10, seeing how it is new anyways
But in all honestly, it’s not really worth the money paid (at least the amount listed on the site); there are better options available at the price range.
Answer #7
When you upgrade from 7 to 10, it keeps all your old 7 system in an “old” folder. In case you want to roll back.
So it virtually needs the space of 2 operating systems..
This old stuff can be deleted later..
