I want to ask about something.
I have a computer with a motherboard of Gigabyte 8I945PL-G.
In the manual it says that it supports
4 DDR II DIMM memory slots (supports up to 2GB memory)
Supports 1.8V DDR II DIMM
Supports dual channel DDR II 533(Note 2)/400 DIMM
And now I’m using 2 DDR2 memory with 266 Mhz (2*256MB).
I want to expand it.
So the question is:
It says that it supports DDR II 533, but right now I’m using DDR2 266Mhz.
Is it ok if I use a different frequency?
Then when I want to buy a new RAM, should I buy the same model and type? Should I find memories with same frequency?
Or I can buy a whole different one from the older ones?
frequencys arnt that important (as long as you get one that your motherboard supports), higher frequencys are a lot more expensive, and unless youve got a realy top of the line computer your not going to notice a difference in buying the more expensive stuff.
if youve got 256mb sticks in there atm, you would be better of getting rid of them and getting 4 1gb sticks
edit: are you sure its DDR2? im not sure they make ddr2 in 400 or 533 mhz, thourght the lowest speed they did was 667mhz
actually it says the max the mobo can support is 2GB so with that you could be wasting money over 2GB extra ram. The frequency is important but is essentially halved. So just look for DDR 2 533/400 mhz sticks and you shall be fine. And insertjoke here, yes they do make DDR2 400/533 mhz ram, look here (1/2 way down the page)

They don’t have to be the same frequency…But if you mix them…The bios will adjust all of them to run at the lowest one you have installed…in a way if you buy a faster one..they all will run at 266Mhz…
