Good g00d ohmighty, too many hardware issues to count..

July 25th, 2016

Alright. Here is the story.
In… west Philadelphia…
Computer is running smooth as silk. Incredibly pleased with performance.
Me: Figures, “Well damn, this things running so good, lets try to make it run better.”
Which IS a valid inquiry, as there was 6 years of dust from 3 seperate houses inside without a single (good) cleaning.
So of course, myself being the smartest guy about anything i’ve never tried, hears whispers of some ‘OPENSUSE’
Me, Hears uses less ram, figure, eh, less ram..? Just gotta partition that sucker and i’ve got my regular homey windows, and my coding boot camp OPENSUSE.
I guess me and Linux just aren’t that compatible with one another as i’ve tried this with other versions of linux and basically…
I installed her, unfortunately rather hastily, accidentally reformatting partition windows is allocated on.. Losing 300 GB of data…
So, I dont really mind. I have other computers. Not my own, but I can use them to wipe my HDD and put W7 back on.
This is where i receive the dunce cap of my past 3 weeks.
Restarts computer, to the error message (NB FAN FAILURE)
I honestly do remember this error message coming up before, but I google it to make sure. turns out, if you know something, don’t google it to make sure, just do it.
Anyways, dissembles my Desktop beyond any scale i have before, unscrewing every fan I see, and finds so MUCH DUST. Honestly, I have no clue how it was running fine. There is absolutely NO WAY of there being ventilation to either of my 2 main fans.
So after about 1 hour of cleaning dust out with a screw driver, until realizing a vacuum is better suited for the task, I then proceed to putting it back together.
Ugh oh, I forget where duh stuff plug in… So I’ll cut out an incredibly large portion of my story as this is already kind of lengthy, 3 days ago, I get things back in technically operational kind of configuration. HDD is loading SUSE with no drivers and NB fan still being uncooprative by not having computers drivers in driver DB and with no internet, hard to achieve drivers.
ANYWAYS.
After more fiddling, quit on HDD, gets older one.
Finds a 1TB Cavier Black WD HDD.
I am in a state of pure euphoria, as my old HDD had but only 500 GB and I was incredibly upset that I had to continuously purge my 50 GB a week Data DLs to my terabyte drive.
So, I hook her up, and go into BIOS setting and set stuff up for it.
It’s failing to recognize anything other than it IS a HDD and it IS in whatever slot i put it in. However, I find, it is locked in RAID.
So, this of course makes me unimaginably discontent. Fiddle fiddle fiddle fiddle fiddle.
Done writting this book, Computer will NOT stop trying to load RAID settings on this HDD, and my old HDD.
To me, appears to be a BIOS mess up. Potentiated entirely by me.

So down to the nitty gritty. I know I could post on some support forum or yaddah baddah doo. But I’ll be honest, I hate everyone I try talking to from I guess you could say Any forum I cannot openly say I’m running a pirated OS, with 300 GB of pirated games, 3D modeling applications totaling to thosands and thosands of dollars, and movies, shows. You guys get it.
Which is exactly why I like coming here for help. You guys get it. I can be open and honest with you, without fear of extradition. and tbh, you are all much more resourceful than those sdflad;sfl on those support BBs. Could anybody help me Get motherboard, BIOS/whatever is Under control, aka, back to factory default or operational.
I’m so incredibly stressed out over this desktop. I’ve been working on it for literally weeks, and just recently got attainment about it and it MUST be done today, or tonight.
I will try ANYTHING, from ANYBODY, as long as it gets my computer to boot the HDD in a fasion where when i try making my disk drive primary boot to install OS, it doesn’t say HDD is locked for raid use only.

If you could help, post here, or if you think you have the master wizard hat of PC restoration, email, pm, idc. ”
Just direct reliable, consistent assistance would be unimaginably great right now..

You must of changed the SATA option to RAID..
Change it back to AHCI or IDE..
Or just go into the bios and reset it the Bios default..

Also, don’t expect to see anything if your HDD doesn’t have an OS installed. Get a flash drive and load Ubuntu (with Mate desktop preferably, much easier and steadier than other Linux flavours) and boot from it. Install it to your HDD after you change the RAID setting. Use Lili to put the Ubuntu iso to the flash disk (or just burn to a DVD using imgburn). Check distrowatch if you want something different than Ubuntu Mate, lots of good options there.

… Huh, i forgot, when i load it up with certain setting, i assumed crash every time… cause black screen, thought would say ‘no btmgr’ or something
it was just hungry for a new breed of linux lol,
What is Ubuntu specifically specialized in efficiency in? I’d honestly like one that uses little ram for maximum preformance during detailed graphics and during 3D modeling off of MAYA, would you have a suggestion?
I used OPENSUSE very briefly, and i was rather fond of its UI, is it similar to that or more to the older ubuntu? I personally was not a humungous fan of UI or.. very much of anything to be honest, i was going to use linux mate, but OPENSUSE had much more appealing description AND UI

My apologies for the double post, Lionsden, I almost just did it again to apologize.. x__x
Could you maybe implement a system in which it gives a suggestion before double posting VIA a notifacation box, similar to pms, that reminds you before posting double posts are bad in general and they should consider editing their previous post?

FINAL EDIT 6:41|————————-
______________
VOIL. I have determined the culprit I believe.
Unfortunetely, Ive had this for a long time, inherited as pass me down, and back in the past, I was unaware that ‘jumper cables’ were ‘technogly’ and not ‘covers for power input prongs, so I threw everyone out. Issue with BIOS battery I’ve never encountered.
I’m just pleased its not unsolvable. I must manually reset BIOS via the motherboard manually with jumper due to a CMOS corruption of some kind. not helpful I was hooking a RAID protected HDD far advanced then current to a computer using a enviorment not subsequently connected to its master HDD and messing with all settings. EDIT:
IM SORRY, please delete, but read suggestion, I tried quoting after seeing yours and it opened new post. I havn’t had much sleep, messing with this computer. sorry again.. x_x
2nd EDIT: Or maybe in settings, make a tick off box for it and defaulted for registering users but you can turn it off if nessicarry!
