Folder help!

August 6th, 2016

This has been really annoying me.
This is what happened:
I recently downloaded a vista icon pack from here: http://www.google.com?p=20034998#20034998
after extracting all the .pngs i realized i had to make them icons.
so i downloaded this: http://www.google.com?t=2125485&highlight=
After that. I went to My Computer > Tools (In the top toolbar) > Folder Options > File Types > clicked ‘file folder’ once > Advanced > Change Icon. Then I navigated to my .ico and i changed the icon.
After all that. None of the folder icons changed. Then when i double clicked a folder, it went to a search.
Image
Since search is at the top, when i double click the folder, it would search.

I have changed it back to the normal .ico it used to be and it is still going to search.
Please help me, I would really appreciate it

Eh, something similar happened to me before. I didn’t know how to get it working right so I gave up, and a System Restore made it work properly again. But don’t try that yet, wait and see if anyone has another solution.

This is a very easy thing to break, but a harder one to fix.
By your screenshots, I am assuming that you are using Windows XP. I don’t know if thius works in Vista as well, but I can confirm that it works in XP.

  1. Paste these lines into a new text file:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell]
    @="none"

  2. Save the file as fix.reg
  3. Double-click on the fix.reg file you just created.
  4. When the “Are you sure you want to add the information in ‘fix.reg’ to the registry?” appears, click on OK.
  5. Check and see if folders behave normally.

No problem man. By the way, do you have XP or Vista? I’m curious to know if that fix works on Vista as well.
