Firewall On-Campus?

January 19th, 2014

Hi there,
just recently went back to school and finding that I can’t access certain sites because of some sort of Firewall (I presume). I want to get through it to watch things on 4 On-Demand and Hulu.
Anyone know of anything I can do to break through it? Sorry if this is an obvious one. Tried google and proxies just seem to be really slow and don’t allow me to stream on it.
Thanks,
R

Get a VPN.
Well it would work unless they blocked the ports needed for VPN passthrough.
Answer #2
You could try this VPN which is in beta at the mo, fairly good speeds on the servers.
I have no clue how long it will remain free.
You can use OpenVPN or PPTP
real-vpn.com
At least you will find out if they have blocked the VPN ports

Depends a lot on their computer science students too, since they are usually the ones who attend to the labs.
Usually a pretty good testament of the quality in the knowledge of the professor who heads up that department as well.
Answer #4
I don’t know if its going to work or not, but it does open up blocked sites
Google ‘Hotspot’

Is this on a PC or PS3? I am guessing a PC. Anyways, doesn’t hurt to go ask the IT help desk at school. Smart money is they can’t IRC because of IRC ports being blocked and other type of nerdcore activites that THEY xan not get away with. But they will give you the straight dope with out having to guess. That, and maybe they can even fix it for you
