DVD drive problem….

I have a Samsung octoedge dvd rom,
but when i put a dvd inside it, my computer gets totally hanged. nothing works.i have to reboot every time. when i put a cd it works fine.. i have tested many dvd’s none work.. any solutions? thanks in advance..

sounds like the DVD side of the drive is bad
just in case do you have another PC to try the drive in ?

Sounds like a mechanical issue, it can anywhere from a speed problem to a laser spectrum problem. Your only bet is to buy a new drive. Also have you tryed to boot from a DVD before your computer loads your OS?

it had stuck..
I had to format my whole computer with the cd drive i had..

Yea, sounds like you need to buy another one. Looks like that drive has paid its dues

If you have Nero installed, try opening your program list go to Nero and on the side apps look for TOOLS, INFO tool, select this, it will scan all your burners drive, once done you can select the ROM you want to look at and it will tell you what may be wrong, one thing I found is even though Nero installs ASPI, Windows dosnt reconize it, you will want to try this download and install

Finally before you scrap your ROM, go and do a driver update, just open my computer and select the drive, go to properties and hardware properties and do a driver update
