Digital Camera Under 400$

I was thinking to buy a digital camera . There are so many on the internet and it is really difficult to decide , can anyone recommend some ?

my budget is around 400$

I’m a Nikon fan. A Coolpix P500 is in your range. It has a decent optical zoom and a nice set of features.

Compact or DSLR ? New or Used ?
What are you going to be using it for ? I know taking pictures – but any specifics, eg Macro, telephoto.
