Cyclic Redundency Check when copying mp3 disk :(
August 3rd, 2016
Have a disk with bunch of mp3 copied to it
Stick disk in the D-Drive of my computer, and first file plays fine using the VLC player – the mp3 plays fine all the way thru, ie. no crashing 1/2 through.
When I try to copy the file to my hard drive I get the following error message:
cannot copy: data error, cyclic redundency check. Any suggestions as to how I can successfully copy the files to the hard drive. (the disk contains a whole series of audiobook mp3s, and if I can’t get the first file then it will be pointless getting the rest).
btw: it’s a CDR disk
Also, with the first track, I went into PROPERTIES, it was checked as READ ONLY, I unchecked that, OKed then IGNORE (because it didn’t want to accept the change), then was able to copy the file successfully. Only thing is, trying to copy track 2 gives the same cyclic error and unchecked the READ ONLY box doesn’t fix it.
This results from read errors from the CD.
First suggestion: clean the CD itself using distilled water, dishwash soap and a lint free cloth. Start from the inside working outwards. Try this a few times. If the cd is scratched, you can also buy a repair kit that might help out.
Second – there are a bunch of software products that will attempt to continue to read using a variety of read techniques – a free one is Free CD Recovery Toolbox. Google is your friend here.
^thanx for this – when the sun comes up I’ll be giving these a go.
