cracks, fixs and patchs? how do these work?

Hi people again,
recently i got sims 3 along with a crack folder and i copyed and pasted it into the game/bin folder; this crack folder had:
rzr-s3cf……………………file
rzr-s3cf.001……..001 file
rsr-s3cf……………System information file
rzr-s3cf.sfv
in it………………………..
before i go on let me tell you that i have posted this in the forum that i got the links and i PM’ed the uploader and i googled this alot; but i either got ignored or found no info that i can understand
…..anyway; im getting to the disc authorisation message and then it closes down so i got another crack folder
0……………………VLCmedia file(.bin)
rzr-s3cf.001……..001 file

rzr-s3cf.sfv
in it………………………..
so tried coping and apsting this one but it makes no difference!
when i looked it up it says things like, insstall the ” patch”, i have no idea where to look or what a patch is
if anyone can help me understand whats going on so i can run this game and learn a little about cracks, patches and fixes
