Could Autodesk catch me using a Pirated MAYA LT?

August 5th, 2016

And if they caught me what would they likely do to me?
I want to create a game in Unreal Engine and also sell 3D models on their asset store. But sort of worried of they could find out I used pirated software to create it?

Answer #1
They won’t do nothing apart from deactivating the software..

I see well this is a relief, I hate blender the UI is really difficult to understand. Maya and 3ds is a lot nicer, icons and stuff to make life easier. Do you think they can somehow find meta data hidden in assets and game files indicating what software was used to create it? Would it matter if I used a student version or one from I would assume one from would be safer?

If you use the pirated version for personal use I don’t think anyone will do anything, if you start making money out of it then just get a subscription, it’s like 30-40$ a month.
Probably the majority of their customers learned on a pirated version and then they bought it, I don’t think people just went and spent 3k$ just to learn the software

Highly unlikely that there would be any hidden data within output files. The program is technically ‘registered’ in some fashion, in order for it to work. I’ve not heard of an output file which embeds licensee information.
However the rule of still stands, personal use or educational reasons, away! Earn a dime, pay your for share from it.
