What program are you using? ConverXtoDVD has never failed me.
edit: I’m confused are you converting avi to vob, avi/mkv to avi, or avi/mkv to avi to vob?
Answer #2
Sorry for the confusion, I am converting avi/mkv to vob
I tried using convertxtodvd and i get an extremely small video size with black bars on top of black bars (crappy resolution). I guess i have the settings wrong?
Answer #3
Use Tipard MKV Video Converter. It is the best converter I have ever used.

Use convertxtodvd and look at the settings. If it’s 720p, then quality will be a bit lower. But not with smaller size movies. If you’re DVD is 4.3GB and the movie is like 1.4GB XviD, then there shouldn’t be any quality difference.
Check your settings if it still doesn’t work
