Cd with larger space.. [SOLVED]

August 21st, 2013

Regularly i ask myself why they don’t/want make cds with larger space instead of just 700mb!?
Ok i know that an usb stick and stuff is good or ipod and stuff but in my car cdplayer i don’t have the opportunity to use usb or other extern memory accesoires so i just have to stick with mp3 cd’s and 700mb is not that enough always.. .
Isn’t it possible to make cd’s with larger space?

Answer #1
If you have a FM car radio, you can always get an FM transmitter for iPod or whatever, or treat yourself to a car unit that will play from USB.

Yes i have a fm car radio but i refuse to buy the fm modulator because you can’t work with different folders and you can’t see the songs on the display of the car like i can with a normal mp3 cd.(i CAN play mp3 cd).

Btw: i already called the service and they said usb isn’t possible only Ipod but the price is: 520€.. so you’ll guess what my answer is.. NO!!!!

Of course you can get players that will take USB – I have one in my car.

Hey man.. are you joking or what? I know that in most of the cars that kind of radio is the solution but not in cars where navigation/radio/cd player is all in one player like the mine.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but all your photo shows is a cd player in a panel that could quite easily be adapted to take anything once the cd player has been removed.
I see no radio/sat nav ? The space below it looks like a glove compartment ?
What type of car is it ?
Answer #9
dude upgrade your car to some other sound system like this one…
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Supersonic+-+In-Dash+Deck+with+MP3+Playback+and+Detachable+Front+Panel/3444586.p?id=1218402871635&skuId=3444586
it has a aux in port on that one and just buy a wire that is like $10 at bestbuy and you buy an mp3 player could be any mp3 player doesn’t have to be an ipod and just plug the aux wire to one of those audio system if you buy other wise you got no choice but to listen to your crappy cds

Hey man.. are you joking or what? I know that in most of the cars that kind of radio is the solution bAdd an usb player
or leave the speaker jack of the car handy & use whit a minilatop/mp3 player/ipod/phone etc !
Answer #11
It’s simple , get any mp3 player and hook them with a FM transmitter. you aren’t obligate to have an ipod
Skip to 1:00 , in your case

Answer #12
yea dude.
An iPod isn’t needed. Any mp3 player will do,
and the FM transmitter (not modulator, dunno where you got that from) is plugged into the 3.5mm input
on your mp3 player/ iPod
you’ll just need to fiddle with the mp3 player instead of the deck when you want to change song.
this is where playlists come in handy.
There are also some on eBay (checked last night) that support iPods and come with a remote
so that you can control it via a remote, instead of fiddling with your iPod and taking your eyes off the road.
Cd’s will be dead in a couple of years anyway, so I’d be getting use to it now

Just take more CD’s with you Or buy a different car if they can’t replace the player, if it’s that important to you.
Answer #15
I actually had bigger cd once, like 840, 940 or whatever, only problem was Nero and other programs were not able to burn that size. Very weird, but there are or at least were bigger cds.

As per my previous post, I still see no radio or sat nav in your pic – only a cd player ? (with an easily replaceable panel)
Why does BMW have to fit something ? I bought a new 6 series and got a better B&O system fitted myself.

The screen of the navi is upside the radio in the dashboard. Here’s an image:

Do you agree now that only bmw can do this job.. to be sure my navi will still work good?
Answer #25
JESUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. CANT ANYONE make sense here???? change player??? change car??? Are you nuts? 24 answers only 1 was good, SMALLER MP3. Best way to people who simple dont want to waste money.
I will explain. MP3 is a compress file. You can compress as mutch as you want. The higher you compress the worst quality sound, BUT you can still compress a lot without lose audible quality. This means your mp3 files will reduce probably around 50% OR MORE witch means you will be able to fit twice as mutch.
By the way, you talked about bigger cd’s. Those 800Mb/s and 900Mb’s sounds good at first sight BUT probably most cd readers wont support them so… probably is not good idea. They are a lot expensive to buy and more dificult to get on stores.
Send-me a PM with your email dude. I will teach you how to compress those mp3’s of yours.
EDIT:
I did some test here: I had compress a mp3 cd (20 music) with original size 120MB and AFTER compress it become 30MB of size. That is 4 time smaller.
You will be able to fit 25 albums with this settings BUT you can compress even more if you want and fit even more than 25 albums if you would like. It is up to you.

The screen of the navi is upside the radio in the dashboard. I'll post a pic later! Btw: if you bought a new 6serie then you'll have to know where the screen of the navi is?????
Why bmw service has to do this job is because i want to be sure that i'll keep the navi without problems and if i change the cd player i loose the navi man!
is your navi connected to your radio or something? sorry i don’t own a bmw but you could just replace your old radio where you put the cd in remove that cd slot and put a new radio system there… i don’t think your getting it… see

I think that the Sat nav displays & controls what is playing on the radio/cd as well (touchscreen) ?
That should be easily remedied by replacing the cd/radio unit behind the panel with one that is compatible, and has more features. Those panels are quite easy to get hold of blank anyway – any scrapyard sells them.
As per my previous post, it doesn’t have to be done by BMW

No problem mate! You’re welcome!
But i have to say it isn’t touchscreen. But i control with a kind of button/controller near the transmission the screen for the navi and which songs i want to choose and stuff.
Here’s the button:

Yeah ok i know that it hasn’t to be replaced by bmw because that guys are insanely expensive but i don’t know somebody else that can do the job and honestly.. i don’t trust that easy somebody to let do this job man.. if something goes wrong i’m done!
Btw: this is another pic i just took from the net but the button is just the same!

The largest compact disc is 800mb. But i havent seen one in quite some time.
Im using a fm usb modulator for my car (BMW320D 2001) price 10$ (the modulator) and it works great.
Answer #30
To be honest, the FM transmitter is the best option, your mp3 player can also have a remote. I have an iPod touch with a remote that would do the job ideally for you. Just mount the iPod/mp3 player on the dash so you can see it, or use bluetooth if your car has that.
It is an easier job than I thought to replace the unit, especially as your sat nav is not radio/touchscreen controlled.
If you lived in England I could have recommended plenty of people to do the job for you, myself included.
Best of luck with whatever you decide m8

Happy Xmas
