Ok u hav 2 options. I recommend the 1st option  cuz u don’t need convert any videos
1st option:
Buy “Avplayer” from app store. Its not that much. It cost me £2. It’s worth it. I heard vlc player from app store is rubbish.
No need convert any videos.
u drag and drop any video format and Avplayer will play them fine (avi/xvid/divx/wmv/mp4/mkv ect ect)
2nd option:
Use freemake video convertor to convert the videos

U will copy the video files in itunes
Follow my 6 simple steps
1: Buy “avplayer” then install on ur ipad
2: Connect ur ipad on to ur computer/laptop then it shud open up itunes. Let it copy the new apps from ur ipad to ur itunes
3: Once it has copied all ur new apps. On the left hand where it says device. click ur ipad. Mine is called “wazzy”

4: Then at the top click “apps”

5: Then scroll down where it says “File sharing” then click “avplayer”
Then u either drag and drop or click “add” to browse for ur videos to copy ur videos

6: once u finshed drag and drop or adding ur videos in avplayer
For example this box will show at the top of itunes

Does the converting take forever? cuz some converter programs take forever to covert a file.

It all depends on your processing power, RAM, and HDD access/write speeds, as well as the quality and encoding done.
I don’t see the whole point in using a bulky Bluray on an iPad 2 considering the display output is only 1024×768, where you’d only be able to get 720p horizontal resolution, however, even with that you’d only be able to get around 600 horizontal since with the 1024 vertical (720p is 1240) you’d have to downscale.
It seems to be a huge waste since:
1) You can’t get the full experience
2) You’re using a lot more processing power to decode/run the file
3) You’re using a considerable amount more space on the storage.
My advice for you is to download Alloksoft converter and use the preset options for converting your media (really, just download a 350mb standard def video) to the iPad 2 format.

another option ………………..
buy “Airvideo” from the apps centre ……….. install on ipad and install on computer ………………….. add folders on your computer (where your movies are stored) ………….. this app allows you to stream using your home network, stream using a remote network, or converts the video so you can install on ipad/iphone/ipod
best £1.60 i ever spent in the apps centre
