Buying a new laptop

August 13th, 2013

So, my old ASUS C90s is getting too slow, and before you start preaching about buying a desktop for gaming, don’t go there. I’ve already sold my desktop, and i have no room for one.
I won’t be doing hardcore gaming, but i will be playing a lot Football Manager 2012, then some Battlefield 3, Skyrim, GTA 4, Modern Warfare 3, etc.
Also i will be using Adobe photoshop, premiere, after effects, and programs like Maya 2012.
My dad is currently in Thailand, so he has sent me a few pics of the specs. I’ll post the most relevant specs for my need. So here it goes:
ASUS N43SL
Intel Core i7-2670QM (2,2 Ghz, L3 cache 6 MB)
4GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333 Mhz
750 GB HDD @ 7200 RPM
nVidia Geforce GT540M 2GB DDR3
14″ HD LED, and it has USB 3.0 etc.
ASUS K53SV
Intel Core i7-2670QM (2,2 Ghz, L3 cache 6 MB)
4GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333 Mhz
750 GB HDD @ 5400 RPM
nVidia Geforce GT540M 2GB DDR3
15,6″ HD LED, and it has USB 3.0 etc.
HP Pavilion dv6 – specific model is: dv6-6169tx
Intel Core i7-2670QM (2,2 Ghz, L3 cache 6 MB)
4GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333 Mhz
750 GB HDD @ 5400 RPM
ATI Whistler XT Radeon HD 6770M 1GB GDDR5
15,6″ HD LED and it has USB 3.0 etc.
Now for the prices.
The ASUS N43SL and DV6, cost about 880$
But the K53SV goes for 750$
I prefer 15,6″ but 14″ is OK.
Which one of the 3 would you suggest? Also if you find anything better, in the same price range, go ahead and suggest, but my budget is 900$ at maximum.
Feel free to link me to sites like NewEgg etc.
Thanks.

Answer #9
out of the three i would choose HP Pavilion
Answer #10
Out of the mentioned three, HP has better specs for gaming. But since people say that it has overheating problem, you might want to use a laptop cooling pad.
Answer #11
try MSI, HP overheats way to fast, same problem over here on a dv7, even fcked up problems between gpu and win x64

I agree. I own the 1080p dv6t Quad Edition 6100 CTO with 6770M and i7 2630. I run Battlefield 3 on all high settings @ 30-40 FPS on 720p.
I have owned it since September and haven’t had any overheating or shutdown issues. I have once played BF3 for straight 6 hours without any major problems besides some lag due to gradual heating.

I think i might just get the HP.
It seems fairly cheap, considering how good specs it has.
I do have a slight concern about the screen resolution though, will it be bothering me? My current laptop handles 1680×1050.
