Bought a defect laptop battery on Ebay

August 3rd, 2013

Hello,
I bought a laptop battery on Ebay.
The battery is defect.
The seller wants the battery returned before I can get a replacement.
My questions is: Who is should to pay for return cost?

Answer #1
It will say on his listing who pays (that you should have read before buying). If it’s faulty then it should really be the seller that pays, but that will be up to you to sort out directly, after reading his listing.
If you are in the UK you will be covered under DSR (Distance selling regulations) and can claim it back through E-bay if the seller refuses to pay. Not sure about elsewhere in the world.
Answer #2
The only thing I can see about it is:
Returns:
30 days money back, buyer pays return shipping

Don’t see anything about defect items.
Answer #3
get the postage back he shouldnt be sending out defect batterys
best thing you can do is open a dispute on ebay via resolution centre and leave the tool negative feedback
Answer #4
Well I haven’t returned it yet. I just want know what what my rights are.
Answer #5
do what i said above open an ebay dispute
Answer #6
DON’T negotiate with the seller – go straight to an ebay dispute. That way if he screws you, you have ebay’s backing in the recovery.
Answer #7
So it isn’t my responsibility to pay for returning the defect item?
Answer #8
You might have to pay to get it to them, but you should get that back off them – A faulty item shouldn’t cost you ANYTHING.
Tell them you want a refund of cost + postage to you + postage back to them.
But – if it’s a case of pay for postage or not get the refund, that’s then your choice – if the postage is $2 and the item was £40, I’d live with it.
If the postage is $10 and the item is $20 I’d kick up a stink.
Answer #9
Who pays return costs depends on the seller.
I sell stuff on eBay and anything that is returned I pay for the return postage, it’s the decent thing to do. Luckily I have very few returns, so paying return postage is not an issue for me.
Answer #10
Looks like it some kind of guessing here
The return postage is about $16.
My question was about what are the “rules” when you get a defect item; who should pay for return postage.
Not so much what ppl think is right
