backtrack 5 – airmon problem and wireless.

I’m trying to test the security of my wireless.
every time I boot in to backtrack 5 R3, I type “airmon -ng” in to the terminal and it says command not found.
airmon is installed though when I have a look in the programs. when I click airmon, it says interface, etc but it doesn’t list my wireless card.
any idea what I’m doing wrong?

no space in “airmon-ng”
