Are newer versions of UTorrent slower?

I noticed I was having the same Hard-Drive overload problem. I have a Q9450, 2 GB/RAM, Windows 7 here. Then I uninstalled UTorrent (and removed all settings saved). Installed 2.0.4 from here:

And bingo! No more problems, and one torrent is being downloaded with twice the old speeds! It’s amazing the difference. What the hell they have done to all newer versions?
The same can be said about Firefox, I had to switch to Chrome because Firefox (and Flash) were always consuming too much RAM from my system, specially when I used MakeMKV/WinRAR, FF crashes or hang/freeze.
Are these people making the softwares worse on purpose?

Never faced low speed depending on the version.
FF is crap(memory hog). Chrome is awesome.
