Answer #1
Does your mediaplayer support srt and did you give the movie and sub the same name?
example:
Pirates Of The Caribbean.avi
Pirates Of The Caribbean.srt
even a mistake in capital letters will cause the srt not to show.
Answer #2
In VLC, just put the srt file in the same folder as the avi file and it will find it.
Answer #3
He uses a media player, so I’m guessing it’s something like the WD media player or Popcorn, so VLC isn’t going to do him much good.

this is the media player i use. i put the movie, srt and the dvd cover in the same folder. i also have named the
movie and the srt file the same. i connected the external drive with this movie folder last night to the usb of
my bluray player and it worked ok. but cant get it to work on the media player. the media player does support
srt.
Answer #5
Try to upgrade to the latest firmware version, that could solve the problem.
Answer #6

If it supports srt (and it seems that it does) you should have a menu to select the subtitle in the Sumvision Cyclone Primus 1TB MKV Media Player
have you tried it?
As mentioned earlier, does the srt have the same name (before the extension) as the file?
Example:
this_movie.avi
this_movie.srt
this_movie.en.srt
this_movie.english.srt
All above would be OK
Is there any error in the srt?
Sometimes there are errors like missing line-break, or time code in the srt. Some players disregard the error but some wont show them.
Answer #8
yes the srt and the movie match like your example’s. tried subtitle on remote it’s greyed out.
it’s not on just 1 movie it’s on a few that need subtitles example Colombiana, Sarah’s Key and these 2 inc
the srt file with the movie.

Has any srt ever worked?
Has any srt ever worked with AVI?
For a work around………You can remux the avi file with the subtitles using MKVmerge to an MKV container. It is done without any conversion so the quality and size stays the same and it takes few seconds.
Read my Help Guide (link in my signature) for info
However….there should be a reason that the srt is not working…
Others have the same problem here:
http://www.kevinsimon.co.uk/?p=1694

But here:

Can you copy/paste the name of the file and the subtitle here?

I have a Cyclone Primus with a 2TB hdd (firmware V30-Cedar110305).
To be honest with you, I have never even tried to play subtitles on it. According to the specs, it doesn’t support .srt, but does support SSA, ASS, SUB, ACSII and UTF8
http://www.sum-vision.co.uk/productinfo/cycloneprimus/primus.asp
I don’t have any .srt files to test on mine, if you have a link to a movie here that includes them, please post it and I’ll have a look (any hosts bar Fileserve).

According to the following, it seems to support it
http://www.svp.co.uk/product.php?product=MTE-01100
In any case, srt is the simplest form of subtitle. If a player supports SAA…etc…it should support srt
You can test by downloading ANY subtitle from a sub site ie:
http://subscene.com/
It doesn’t have to be for a particular movie…all you want to do is to test if the player recognises it
No need to download a movie…..Just download a random srt subtitle and name it the same as any of your movies….and test it

OK – it didn’t recognise the .srt on it’s own, so I grabbed one for The Walking Dead 2-07 I just downloaded (from subscene as above), and renamed the .srt as the same.
Played the file on the Primus – use the subtitle button on remote, and select the encoding language you want – works fine
I tried it on one in a bedroom, a Sumvision Micro 2+ and works fine on that also (incase anyone needs the info)

Of course it wouldn’t recognise the srt withoyt the video file
Good…so it supports srt…then the problem thomson123 is having is probably with the naming of the file.
On rare occasions, a firmware upgrade doesn’t behave properly. In that case doing a factory reset helps.
PS. the Meerkat: Out of curiosity, what was the container type of the video? MKV, AVI etc?
Answer #14
its a avi
Colombiana.2011.480p.BRRip.XviD.AC3-ViSiON.srt
Colombiana.2011.480p.BRRip.XviD.AC3-ViSiON
this is what i have done?
Answer #15
What is the full name of the avi file?
Answer #16
avi file full name
Colombiana.2011.480p.BRRip.XviD.AC3-ViSiON.avi
srt
Colombiana.2011.480p.BRRip.XviD.AC3-ViSiON.srt
I haven’t got a clue mate, as mentioned this is first time ever I have played subtitles on mine. I upgraded the firmware a few months back with this file from their site (yes they used mediafire to host it, lolz) due to the DTS sound issues (which are now resloved)
http://www.mediafire.com/?su5c8lsbvbb7311
You have to run it from a USB stick or hdd, and let it progress, I think it rebooted a couple of times whilst doing it, so don’t power off until it’s completed.
How do I upgrade the firmware of my Primus?
Download the most recent firmware from the Sumvision website and extract its contents into the root directory of an empty USB pen drive.
Insert the USB pen drive into the Cyclone Primus and navigate to “USB Device”.
Select the firmware update.
The screen goes blank during a firmware update. Have I done something wrong?
This is normal during a firmware update. Please wait for a couple of moments for the firmware to complete.
On rare occasions, the display via HDMI is incorrect during a firmware update.
On these occasions, please ensure that the device is also connected to your TV via the supplied composite cable during the firmware update. When the screen goes blank, select the composite connection as the active input on your TV.

Here’s a photo I just took of the menu I get when I press the Subtitle button on the remote, and as you can clearly see, the subtitles are showing on the TV

At least you have them playing now
I don’t need to go into the media player set-up menu, just use the subtitle button on the remote to turn on. I guess it goes back to default settings when it reboots, but you only have to press one button, once.
Answer #24
I dont have to reboot. just go from 1film to another and the subtitles goes back to off.
