A question for all Electronic/Computer Engineers

I have a project to do where I have to analyze the impact on restaurants who use self serving kiosks. I got plenty of stuff on the business side of things,
but I want to know what type of hardware and software is used in such kiosks. ie micro controllers or something like a DSP? and what type of software is used to program the UI. Will C/C++ do the job?

they usually use a slim downed version of windows or some kind of small distro linux built by the engineers. the hardware is usually sold by dell or hp however these are special orders that you have to make and they are not sold through the hp site. thats all i can help u with
