Changing DSL – Broadband Providers which web based mail

August 5th, 2016

a clarification. I want to change to a cheaper broadband service. my isp gives me an email address and internet access.
if i change broadband providers i will lose my old saved emails so how do i transfer my saved emails from one usa service provider that has email service to another isp service provider that also gives internet service?
i know how to transfer my email address list.
Any recommendations would be very helpful.
Thanks

what kind of email client are you using?
Example: MS outlook, Thunderbird?
Or is it a WebMail account with the isp?
solutions vary depending on your situation.
Give us more info and will see what I can do

If it is really webmail only, then you can’t transfer them. If the old provider allows POP3, you could download all your old mails and save them on your computer (user Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird etc). If both providers allow IMAP, you could probably somehow transfer the mails directly, depending on the amount it could take a long time. POP3 would be the easiest way
There are ways to download mail from webmail-only providers to a POP3 client like OE or Thunderbird, it involves a proxy software but this software has to support that specific provider (mainly the bigger ones like Yahoo and downwards)
Answer #3
– i will try and find out if my soon to be former isp allows pop3. good suggestion
– i am using webmail with the isp.

Well if it is webmail based, you may be out of luck for an easy solution.
Good Luck

If your current ISP doesn’t allow POP3 then let us know, we could find a way for you to download your webmails through a proxy software. That depends on your current ISP being supported by one of the softwares, so in that case let us know what your current ISP is and we could try to find a solution

thanks – give me about 10 days to set up all this changing – modem etc

If you are after a nice fancy email client that is still easy to set up and use, then Incredimail is not bad…Similar to OE but nicer… Get the premium version from –bb and then no ads or anything like that and the patch allows you access to the gold gallery ,junk mail filter plus etc…Can be set up for as many accounts as required including hotmail and any webmail that has POP or similar…
Actually I would be pretty sure that you will find that ISP emails do have POP access..and even if they don’t there should be a download button for mails so you can store then on your PC….Good luck ..
Answer #8
never thought about that. good idea. i am thinking of using gmail instead of the new isp’s email client. this way in the future- if i change isp’s again – i avoid complications.
Answer #9
Yes. Gmail is good and hotmail is OK..
Some ISPs mail services are a pain in the rear…they censer emails for things that they might think are spam and they won’t let you use attachments such as rar files…duh…they think you need a net nanny built in…
Answer #10
i have heard hotmail is not that good from my international travel friends.
does gmail forbid the sendings of rar files? i guess – the workaround would be to change the extension from rar to “duh ”
Answer #11
I just tested it and neither would do rar files…but as you said, changing the extension to .txt did the trick, they would then both work OK for sending and receiving..

thanks chris2u- much appreciated.
i hope to have my new isp up and running in a week or so.

sorry it took so long to get back. i decided not to do change isp providers. what i have learned is- keep calling the isp business office and present your problem. if you do not like the solution — call again and you will most likely get a different person. again repeat your issues. do this a 3rd or 4th time. for example the concern i have took about 2-3 years to solve. the isp rules are so complicated that the isp customer representative does not know it all or is confused by it. that is why one should call again.
