Xbox 360 and PS3 owners, help me decide

September 26th, 2013

Im tossing up between the two.
I want to be able to play burnt/download games.
Plus I want to play hi-def media on my TV.
The ps3 can play the hi-def .mkv files (since most of the high definition 720p and 1080p stuff is in .mkv format) can’t it?
I was thinking about buying WDTV to play the high def mkv files, would the ps3 act as a substitute if all i wanted to play was mkv files, not any other format?
And is there a way to watch hi-def media through the xbox? Can it also play the mkv’s?
Is it possible to get the ps3 jail break dongle in Australia?
Thanks!

I don’t have a PS3 so I can’t say what it can and can’t do but for the fact that you want to play burnt games the xbox is great. It doesn’t play MKV but it will play AVI so just get BR rips.
Answer #2
get a ps3 with firmware 3.55 or less and you can play downloaded games easy.

if your wanting an entertainment system then i would go for the ps3 but if its online gaming you want, almost everyone i have asked has recommended me xbox 360
Answer #6
I use TVersity and can stream 720p MKV’s to my 360 no problem.

Best media player bar none is free, and its xbmc. Just build a cheap htpc, and put that on it, plays everything, all these other media streamers are very poor in comparison.

Your better off with something like a AC Ryan Playon!HD Mini2.
Officially the Xbox 360 and the PS3 won’t support Matroska containers.
It gets complicated because the inside of those containers can be anything, you can have a load of different video encodes and audio encodes. Even if the container is supported, you won’t be able to play the video or audio.

i have both. ps3 is better performens, i have one 3.55cfw so you can play from hdd but you can not play every ripped game. xbox360 is flashed also, you can play all games burned on dl-dvd disc and is cheaper. i would buy both consoles.

Officially the Xbox 360 and the PS3 won't support Matroska containers.
Also You have to split up on a ps3 .mkv to 4gb parts cause of fat32.
So that is a real pain.
I have both, what I have done.
Is I play xbox 360 offline, while burned disc’s and keep ps3 for online play as psn is free.
If you had to choose one, choose xbox 360, i like it better,
