Installing Windows 7
August 5th, 2016
If you’re on vista, you can upgrade which will keep all you’re files.
If you’re on xp you have to format.
he is right. . . but i still think u get the Oldwindows” folder which has your programs and stuff from you previous windows. . . Not 100 about it… but ive allways had it when ive reinstalled windows.
Yes, you don’t have to format, just select “Custom Installation” in the setup, and Win7 will move all you old files to a folder called “Windows.old” and install Win7 fresh.
Although making a backup is alway recommended, you never know what may go wrong.
I’m using XP, is Windows 7 a step up from XP? I don’t want to waste my time installing it only to find out it wasn’t any good
Windows 7 is good but it auto arranges your files and folders which for me is a big issue so I went back to xp.

yes, windows 7 is a gigantic improvement in comparisson with xp, you can’t forget that xp is 10 years old, you can’t keep using such an old OS forever
I may as well upgrade, does anyone know how to save all your firefox addons so they keep all your account info? I use an add-on called secure login which holds all my account details across a ton of sites and I really don’t have the time to write down every single account
If your hard drive is big enough you could just try partition and install Win7 on the second part. Just a idea
Mmm, I’ve tried that avenue before… I have a 70gb external hard drive but if anything goes wrong I’d be really smiling. Better to be safe than sorry.
well i think its best to just do a full install… im not gonna promis you wont loose anything. But i never have and xg said the same… so id just jump into it…

Well currently i don’t have to format my PC for installing windows 7. I just choose is Upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate from Windows Vista Ultimate. That’s easy.. and if you install windows xp service pack 3 of professional edition.. i think you got a chance of upgrading it to windows . currently not windows 7.. Do some dirty tricks on it.. and you will find valuable point of upgrading from windows xp to windows 7 directly without any formats, or any damages..
I will say is Google is your friend.. is your friend of .. so give it a try.. see if it does works or not.. definitely it always worked for me…
Just like upgrading from Mac OS X to Mac OS Snow Leopard that easy is Upgrading a PC.

Is that just to turn off auto arrange on the desktop?
I’m on about auto arrange while viewing in a folder or drive directory. It just places everything in athabetical order. I’ve searched but can’t find any tutorial for that.
So you are talking about when you open a folder and then it gets rearranged by itself after you get new files? Cause thats pretty much the same as in xp. So not sure if thats what you mean…. ? i mean….. yeah if you pick arrange after file name… sure the folder will do that… But hell… then just arrange after date if you dont want that. ….
No in windows xp, say you have a folder with some documents in. I use icons view and you can manually drag the files around to any order you want. In windows 7 it just put them in alphabetical order but yeah I think there was an option to set it to arrange by date but I need to be able to manually move my files and folders to any order I want regardless of the first letter or the date.
In windows xp My Documents folder, I have for example 4 folders in this order, Video – Music – Pictures – Files.
In windows 7 it will auto arrange them like this, Files – Music – Pictures – Videos. Unless I number each folder like 1 Video – 2 Music – 3 Pictures – 4 Files
More inportantly though a work folder full of files, In xp I can drag a file to the bottom and it will remain there, In windows 7 if I put a file in my work folder it will auto arrange it alphabetically then I have to look around the folder to find this document where as in windows xp the document will remain where I left it.
