Can I run windows 7 and dx11? please help..
January 24th, 2020
I want to know if I can run windows 7 and if my videocard supports dx11.
Pc Specifications:
Motherboard: Asus p5kc
Videocard: Nvidia Geforce 8800gt 512mb
Processor: Intel quad core (q6600) @ 2.4 GHz
Ram: 4gb
22” Samsung 226 bw monitor
I am currently using windows vista ultimate.
I think I can use windows 7, but I really don’t know if I can run DX11 with my videocard. I mean what if I update it?? You can update at nvidia.com Would it work then? or do I have to upgrade my videocard???
Thanks already!
The Nvidia Geforce 8800gt only supports DirectX 10 / OpenGL 2.1
the 8800 is directx10. updating drivers wont change it. ull need a new card for dx11. the only dx11 card out atm is the ati 5870 IIRC
You can normaly run windows 7 minimum spec: 1 GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
1 GB of RAM (32-bit); 2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
16 GB of available disk space (32-bit); 20 GB of available disk space (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Only you cant update your grafic card to dx11 only ati series 5… support dx11 I think.
I also have 8800gt
No, it doesn’t support dx11
Yes it runs windows 7 fine
there arn’t any dx11 games out anyway
You dont need it to support DX11 anyway that wont be used in a long time. Hell most new video games support DX9. If your card only supports Dx10 it will run on that. I have a Dx9 card and run Windows 7 fine with AERO on and transparency.
I have yet to see a game to run DX10 with any major changes. Even Crysis looks the same, stick with XP/Vista. I reccomend XP it is much more quicker and uses less system resources.

Always fun seeing people telling others to stick with a 10 year old operating system
You need to change your graphics card to a ATI Radeon HD 5750, 5770, 5850 or 5870 to run DirectX 11, there are no DirectX 11 games just yet, so I would wait until they come out if I were you.
And @ , that’s totally wrong, there’s a major difference between directx 9 and 10 especially in crysis. Crysis on XP looked nowhere near as good on vista/7.
Also 7 performs *slightly* better then vista with gaming.
If your a gamer using XP on a forum were vista and 7 is available, I am really shocked with disappointment. I mean come on, XP is 7 years old if not more.
You need to change your graphics card to a ATI Radeon HD 4750, 4770, 4850 or 4870 to run DirectX 11
Nope only ATI HD 5000 series can run Directx 11 for now (5870,5850,5770 for now)
