Installing Windows Xp From Linux
February 16th, 2019
The reason why is because recently there was a hard drive failure in the startup when trying to run XP. so i was forced to install Linux.
Here’s the thing ; I’m trying to install WinXP somehow but i have no idea how to. I have tried several ways: 1)Downloading the ISO img of WinXP Pro and installing it to my USB. (got a blue screen on the installation and failed
2) Running (mounting) the iso directly from the hard drive and running the Setup. (something about the partitions and failed)
Please don’t tell me to Put in the Installation CD as i don’t have it. Mention any methods possible for resolving this. TIA
if u dont have it cant u burn a disc? or just buy your friend a disc and tell him to burn the iso for u. Simple.
yea i guess ima have to buy blank cds *sigh*
Well I run GNU/Linux on many machines as Primary and one with a duel boot. With out the error message from the bluescreen it’s a little hard to help you out. Does it say that the installation failed could not find HDD? If this is the case XP does not have SATA support when installing/formatting so it may not find what it is looking for. Go into BIOS settings and change the SATA from Native enabled to disabled(AHCI to Compatibility) and it should install for you… if this is indeed the problem. Please share what exactly the error is when the partition fails. If I am not able to help you, at least someone else may see the error and have a solution.
You can install virtualbox run:- sudo apt-get install virtualbox-3.1
and install xp on it

Yeah the thing is that i am locked out of my bios and have no idea where to find the Bios Battery to remove it and reset the bios.
As for Virtual Box, i’m not interested. i want XP as my primary OS
